Everyone knows that Glenn, despite several unusual personality > issues, has an absolutely brilliant perspective and knowledge of TKD and > Hapkido instructors and lineages. We should probably not hold anything against someone just because our old friend Glenn claims he never heard of them. Actually, perhaps that is one heck of an endorsement... :) Ray Terry rterry@idiom.com --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "michael tomlinson" To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Sat, 27 Jul 2002 14:51:29 +0000 Subject: [The_Dojang] The Man Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Dakins is still my hero! I totally agree, I don't know how many times I have had to explain what organization "we" belong to to newer students as they stare at me with this blank look on their face trying to act like they really care when I can tell all they want to do is get on the mat and kick and roll and throw people, I have actually had older students say, hey I am here working out with YOU and that is what I want to concentrate on, that puts it into simple perspective sometimes and makes me laugh, what brings me back to the mat time after time is the part that involves working out and slamming each other, now dang it, that is fun!! I have some pretty good cert's in my opinion, but I am fortunate enough to have been tortured during my belt test's and personal training by Steve Mortel, Master Whalen, Master Nabors, and Doju Nim Ji,, when I look at my certs it is their names I regard as important in my memory bank, not the pretty glossy paper or the Korean writing that I can't read,, it seems like everytime we get to caught up in the org debate we loose sight of the true meaning of why we train. I am sure Jere would go train with Master West regardless of what org he belongs to or whatever he called his MA, I would do the same with Master Whalen and Master Nabors and Doju Nim Ji, the fact that they are "teachers" is the most important thing to me, and that they are good people.. the org is like that big sugary rose on the birthday cake, it is good but it isn't the cake, just an ornament. Alain, stop by Indian Joe's up the hill (past Hooker Hill) on the left. Kind of interesting site: The owner or mama-san sits at the bar reading the bible while her lady workers get drinks from customers. Interesting juxtaspositioning. Next, there is a great Jazz Club right on the main thoroughfare across from McDonald's and Hamilton Hotel. Very nice atmosphere and good music. Stay at the Hilltop Hotel. Good price. Go to the huge hotel complex at the Army Base. NCO club also hopping. Try the steam baths to relax. Those little Korean restaurants down the alleys are great. Have fun and say hello to Mi Sun Kim over at Indiana Joe's for me. You know, the one with the long dark hair. McD... Yahoo!
