I don't understand if Seniors and BB's are there to teach etc., why they would indeed send someone to a lower rank for the answer. Why not just skip the middle man, go directly to the lower belt, (the one who will end up providing answer anyway) and allow the Senior and Black Belts to do something else? Why not just ask your instructor or the first higher rank student and ask them? Seniors and Black Belts surely need to learn as well? I hope this doesn't sound sarcastic as I certainly mean no disrespect to anyone of any rank, but sometimes it is hard to read tone into an email. Thanks- Rita > Seniors and Black Belts are there to teach...not > isolate themselves from the ranks because of their rank... > > The etiquette is to not interrupt them when they are > talking or busy...bow to them when eye contact is made...ask the > question...bow when the answer is giving ...and bow after the instruction is > complete... > > Definitely seek out the information from the senior > ranks and Black Belts... > > IMHO...if they refuse because they feel they are too > high of a rank...their rank should be reduced... > > But should they send you to a lower rank for the > answer...don't take this as blowing you off...take it as getting your answer > from someone they trust to answer you correctly who may have more time to > spend with you... --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Fri, 9 Aug 2002 18:54:44 -0700 (PDT) From: Charles Veuleman To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] (no subject) Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Jere, Truce/Failure. Cross training to our instructor is treated as being disloyal to the club even to the extent that when he went on holiday we attended one of the Dan grades clubs ,from our dojang ,and were told in a polite way that this was not acceptable !. I find this very strange from a organisation who's Grand master is 9th Dan TSD and a 6 Dan TKD, shouldn't we follow his example and Cross train?>>>> That is strange. My TSD instructor holds BB's in TKD and Hapkido, also. He didn't have a problem with me "visiting" other dojangs to train when our dojang was closed. I asked permission to be on the safe side, but he didn't mind at all. Our dojang also had jujitsu (totally different instructor, and art), which I took for a short time before I moved. Having two arts in one dojang tells ya that he didn't mind cross training. About 5 or 6 of us (TSD) students also took jujitsu. My new school as two arts (TKD, and Tai Chi), but I donno if my instructor here would take a liking to cross training outside of the dojang. Last year I got excited (mistakenly) when my dojang installed air conditioning. I couldn't conceive of installing it but not using it. Boy, was I wrong! It is used on test days to keep the parents comfortable and it is used during the early afternoon classes to keep the little children comfortable. They shut it off when the yudanja come to practice. You can feel the slight, refreshing chill in the air for just a moment and then it is lost... forever. On hotter days I sometimes think that they wait to shut it off until the moment I walk in and bow. Ha! It's the same with the heat in the winter. They shut that off when I walk in the door too. When I was a beginner that was pretty harsh because I didn't have enough really physical stuff to practice to keep warm. These days I'm really thankful they shut it off. It's nice to have a few weeks of training where I don't risk killing or maiming myself due to a sweat-related injury. ;) ===== Anthony Boyd: Swordsman and English Teacher www.stormpages.com/haidonggumdo ______________________________________________________________________ Post your ad for free now! http://personals.yahoo.ca --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net It's a great day for Taekwondo!
