Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net What does everyone else on the list think of this? (as posted on http://taekwondo-web.com) The seventh inter-Korean cabinet meeting produced a 10-point statement including taekwondo unification. South and North Korea will push for exchange of taekwondo delegations. The South's delegation will visit Pyongyang around mid-September and the North's delegation to Seoul around late October. The Organizing Committee of the Busan Asian Games and North Korea's Olympic Committee will hold working level talks to sort out procedures for the North's participation in the 14th Asian Games, including the carrying of the torch form North side. It is reported that a Member of International Olympic Committee, Chang Ung will assume the next President of the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF). On 20 August 2002, Chang Ung will hold talks about unification of Taekwon-Do with Un Yong KIM who is a Member of International Olympic Committee, President of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) and the General Association of International Sports Federations (AGFIS) in Monaco. On 16 August 2002, Mr. Sen Jea Hun, a Presidential special aide of the WTF said “According to the will of Choi Hong Hi who was president of the ITF and passed away, it is known that Chang Ung will assume the next President of the ITF. Naturally, on 20 August the next President of the ITF, Chang Ung and Un Yong KIM, President of the WTF are going to discuss about exchange and unification of ITF and WTF. It is said that ITF was established by Choi Hong Hi, the Founder of Taekwon-Do in 1966, and it has been developed on the worldwide. WTF was established by Un Yong KIM, President-Founder of the WTF and Taekwondo has been chosen as an Olympic event. Recently, the son of Choi Hong Hi, secretary general of the ITF emphasized his legitimate post as the next president of the ITF. Some others of the ITF are ready for action to take the next president. But before the death of Choi Hong Hi, Chang Ung was appointed as the next president of the ITF by Ch oi Hong Hi. Subsequently, Chang Ung and Un Yong KIM, the heads of Taekwondo will talk about exchange of taekwondo, unification of ITF and WTF in Monaco. It will be a historical event between ITF and WTF. Although it was a small crowd, about 140, there was plenty of action on the mats and at various buffets around the Jackson area. The next one is scheduled for the weekend of March 7th, 2003, with an expected 300 participants. We look forward to seeing Ray again, along with Master Timmerman, Master Hodder, Master McHenry, Master Allison, Master Hilland (who couldn't make it this time), Master Booth and many other great teachers and students. Thanx again to everyone that helped make this a success....J. R. This has come to be more of a concern with more and more girls joining our program. Every martial arts program I have ever seen does not allow jewelry, and especially earrings during training. Please share with me your school's policy and Why they cannot wear earrings during training. If it is a safety issue, explain the danger of wearing them. Two weeks ago I was introduced to a new form and I was drilled for about 1 hour. I tried to do this as the junior instructor advised me but I twisted my leg and then I heard a crack in my knee. I was in so much pain that I could not talk. I went home and did what I normally due for sports injuries, I applied ice every twenty minutes, then heat the next day. Today my knee was OK but when I tried to do my regular forms in class today I felt pain again. Now my leg is starting to have dull pain. What should I do to prevent injuries like this? I am advancing in 1 month and I know if my knee is not up to form, my Grandmaster will not let me take the rank test. What is a Poom se? Are these two terms used interchangeably? What is a So Ki? What is Jasae? What is Ku Bi? Whats the difference between Sohn Nal and Sudo? When were the jumping flying kicks added to the curriculum of the Chung Do Kwan. It is my understanding the Japanese suppressed Korean culture and forced their own culture on the oppressed Korean peoples during the Japanese occupation at the beginning of the last century. Shotokan karate was the style of karate taught to Gen. Choi Hong Hi, therefore that is what he taught to his Korean soldiers. Where did Won Kuk Lee learn his martial arts? I believe Won Kuk Lee founded the Chung Do Kwan, is that correct? I have a lot more questions but I'll stop here to see what kind of response I get. I think you had it redone since the last time I viewed it..? Anyways, it's nice. But, I must admit I am a little confused on something. Your student Kent states "we don't want to associate ourselves with the style and politics of the large Taekwondo organizations (WTF/ITF/WTA/ITA/etc.)" And then you state "FROM MY POINT OF VEIW OF THE SITE, they are doing only WTF recognized forms, and following the WTF standards for curriculum" when referring to GM Sell's site. Correct me if I'm wrong but on your very own website under the "Sensei Veuleman" there is a picture of you wearing a WTF uniform...???? Just wondering why, since you stated one time that you wear the traditional dobak that has short sleeves and short pant legs. Which by the way while viewing pictures on your site, I noticed that you are the only one wearing this type of dobak. Everyone else is wearing long sleeves and pant legs and even black/white mixed uniforms. No disrespect intended. Just curious. Thanks. Very briefly, Tsatsouline likes the Three-to-Five Method to get strong. His claim is that you must first get strong before you can get fast. That approaches like plyometrics are okay, but most do not first take the time to get strong so that plyometrics will be effective. The 3-to-5 Method guidelines are 3-5 exercises (no need to do all in one session), 3-5 sets, 3-5 reps (life slow and tight, stop a rep or two short of failure), 3-5 mins of rest between the sets, 3-5 workouts per week.
