And that if it happens, it's their own damn fault for being so stupid! First, let me begin by telling you that when I was 17 years old, and the plastic was fresh off of my black belt, I had no idea what in the world the WTF was, I was very confined to my own dojo's teachings. I had only done a few tournaments, mainly back when I was a yellow belt in the first year of my training. I did not have the privilidge of being around alot of the other schools in our system since I was younger and did not travel to compete. My instructor wore a long uniform, and only occasionally did some students wear a short one, usually they came to Natchitoches from other system schools to go to Northwestern State U. (go demons). When I was looking through the Century catalog, I saw the TKD uniforms and thought they were neato. Sensei said I could not get the one with the WTF patch, but I could get the one with the century logo on it. So TECHNICALLY :D it wasn't a WTF uniform. Also at this time, I had done no study on the WTF or other TKD organizations and did not know that they had to 'earn' their black colars. If you ask any of my students who are close to me, they know I don't like wearing black trimmed Gi's now just out of respect for those who have to earn their black collars and such. Nathan even bought me that "korean trimmed" gi top from Century for my last birthday, and I have only recently warmed up to wearing it. I know that may sound weird, but we lease our building out on Monday's and Wednesday's to a USTF guy that has a couple of students from his church, and they do the whole earning colored colar thing. Just trying to be respectful. I hope that explains that picture. Now, as for why in the other pictures why I am the only one wearing a short gi, that is just circumstance. I would say at least 1/2 of my membership has a shorty gi. As for the mixing of black and white tops and bottoms, all students who reach the level of blue belt are allowed to mix and match uniform colors (with an exception of red - don't ask) I hope this clears those pictures up. Just post or email me if it doesn't ( i am sure you will) Yours in the Martial Arts Charlie V. ===== ------------------------------------- L. Master Hodder I think gave a class on using his knee as a weapon :-) Ray gave me a chance to try and cut him several times, but he seemed to block all my attempts... We wound up having a joint TKD & TSD seminar Friday afternoon, mostly going over spin kicks and finished up going through our forms. Besides the great seminars, we had a very enjoyable time meeting new friends and seeing old ones (yea Ray - your one of the 'old' ones). There were plenty of opportunities to mingle and get to know each other over dinner or having a cold one (Ray had a bunch of cold ones). There were a few more younger students there this time and I know Mindy (my daughter) enjoyed that. We were all very worn out by the end of the weekend. Sorry if I didn't get the chance to say bye to all my friends before we had to leave early Sunday. I enjoyed working with all those who trained with me and I have several new and hopefully lasting friendships I made. I hope Jennifer is feeling better and that I'll see you both (and your students) in March. Take care, Mac --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net It's a great day for Taekwondo!
