Anyway, it was very impressive to say the least. There were a lot of interesting framed articles covering most of the walls and pictures of various members of his organization. One article stated he had 234 schools located in 120 countries. I watched the last evening class (2 students) which looked like it consisted of a mixture of Hapkido and Taekwondo. While I was waiting for the class to finish, I noticed an article or flyer stating Master Myung was a 9th Dan in Taekwondo as well as a 10th Dan in Hapkido. I had no ideal he was even a Taekwondo practitioner. I didn't have the chance to meet him, since he left 10 minutes before I arrived. I guess I'll have to try another time when he's around. By the way, I heard he was ill. Does anyone have any further information on his illness? Sun Mu Kwan-USA www.ushankido.org --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! This is a great opprotunity to see a lot of topped rank masters do demonstrations and seminars. GM Seo is said to be coming in to participate in this event as well......" Just a quick comment. I have considerable respect for GM Seo so anytime there might be a chance to meet or train with him my ears perk-up. However, I have had a communication from Steve Seo and have talked with Sara Seo and both have stated that GM Seo will not be at the GATHERING 2002 event. There are some events that are in the works for next year and may include a seminar in Tampa for the Pelligrini people, and maybe something with Rudy in Fall of 2003. Right now, though there is nothing in concrete except that GM Seo won't be in Chicago in Fall 2002. BTW: Sara did mention that Steve Seo may be presenting in Ohio this Fall but the event still needs to be firmed up. If I hear anything more I will pass it along. I have also NEVER seen anyone put this on a flyer. I am wondering if Doju Nim Ji even knows this is on the flyer. This is not something that he would put on a poster. Why don't you call the guy offering the training and talk to him about it, I bet you would find Doju Nim Ji has nothing to do with it......" Thanks. That was actually the whole reason I raised the issue in the first place. The last time this particular school in Carol Stream hosted GM Ji ( a few years back) they advertised the same opportunity. Later when I commented on it on a Net I was advised that I must have misread or misinterpreted the brochure. It was after the fact and a little difficult to raise the discussion about something that was a done deal. In this case, though, the event is up-coming and I think that presents the issue in a different light. Normally we discuss such happenings in the abstract, and people generally are concerned and confused about how such things as well-regarded GM-s hawking rank advancement could happen. I think this is a good opportunity to see how such things could occur. If its a function of the GM, well and good. If its a function of the promoter blind-siding his guest, maybe THAT needs to be addressed. If its just business-as-usual in KMA, well, so be it. My vote is to address it for whatever it is and represent it as such rather than affect some righteous indignation after the fact. My wife and I will be in the Carol Stream/Bloomingdale area (West suburbs) and may just have a night free to get away and say hello to anyone in the area. Bruce-- you are out there somewhere aren't you? Anyone else somewhere near that area? If you don't mind having a visitor come in and say hello some evening feel free to drop me an email! I asked for pro and con advice and did I recieve what I asked for. Well, to make a long story short the TRO that the United States Hapkido Associaton tried to put on me failed. While working for the formentioned association the master insturctor decided that he was gonna get rich selling video tapes, books, and becoming a martial arts business consultant. The video tapes were done very good and I used to use them myself before a test, but when it came time for someone who nothing about Hapkido to try and learn off of these tapes and then test by video it was a mess. Not only was it tough for the student, but it takes way to much time to try and test someone buy tape and then either by phone or video go over everything they did wrong and have them understand exactly how to fix it. All I have to say about being a martial arts consultant is if you tell someone that you can get his studio up to or more than 300-400 students in one year you should be able to do it yourself. Hello Bruce: You are quite correct, and that is why I said that such training must be in conjunction with "on the mat" training. IMHO, the video can give the practitioner the basic ideas, and then I could fine tune them on the mat. In addition, I believe that such training can only be uselful for students with significant knowledge who regularly train. I do not believe it would be of any use for a novice who does not attend regular classes. Example: Most highly respected Universities use all sorts of media, including video training, to augment their teaching. Most martial art organizations and many schools also give their students textbooks etc. In short, I think more people actually use such training tools than they might want to openly admit to. I see nothing wrong with using every means I have to help me get my point across. In the end, there MUST be rice eating time on the mat. On your question about GM Seo. I am presently exploring the possibility of bringing GM Seo to an area that is accessible for more people; however, it is just exploration at this time. On your second question, I have a small, but very friendly tournament coming up in October. To make attending more attractive to out of town people, I will host a free judging clinic on Friday evening, and then I will do a fourn hour seminar on the following Sunday. Thanks for asking. BTW, I will be in Orlando this weekend, so if I don't answer questions you'll know why. Sincerely Rudy. --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net It's a great day for Taekwondo!
