Also found were several tile-roofed building sites presumed to have been used as military barracks during the Baekje era, when its capital was Hanseong, now Seoul, during an excavation in Seonup-ri, Janghowon-eup. The excavations by the burial culture research institute affiliated with the Dankook University, headed by Prof. Park Kyong-shik, began June 10. The institute announced on Friday (Sept. 6) that about 40 pieces of earthenware and building sites were unearthed at the approximately 2,640-square-meter site inside the fortress. The earthen artifacts include various jars, rice steamers, stemmed glasses and bowl stands. Two of the 10 areas where all the earthenware was unearthed were assessed as landmarks in the archaeological study of the early Baekje period, Prof. Park said. Many pieces of earthenware are complete, and even the broken artifacts can be restored. All the pieces are presumed to have been manufactured in the same period, he added. Much attention has been focused on an intact saucer for a jar or bowl. Several similar but broken pieces were already excavated from Pungnap Earth Fortress and Mongchon Earth Fortress in eastern Seoul and the historic site in Pocheon, northern Gyeonggi Province. Another archaeological achievement is the confirmation of the tile-roof building sites, Park said. Evidence for tile-roof houses during the early Baekje period had been scant until the Pungnap Earth Fortress was excavated. However, this excavation shows that tile-roof houses were also built in provinces away from the capital in that period, he said. Park said the excavation overturned the theory that no fortresses were built on the mountains in the early Baekje period. He said that the fortress is believed to have been constructed around the late fourth century. Archaeologists believed that the mountain fortress was constructed in the mid-5th century by King Jinheung of the Silla Kingdom when he conquered the Seoul area. --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "Randall Sexton" To: Date: Fri, 6 Sep 2002 21:54:35 -0500 Subject: [The_Dojang] Ki Stuff Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I saw him once demo Bagua and as big as he was, "sucked" his demo dummy in like a blender and spat him out. I've never seen a "fat" guy move so fast! He is an irascible fellow however. I just finished posting a list of my Ki/Qi book library, except for the books I wasted my money on. I've separated them from the MA books. Will add meditation and other books later. If you have a question about any of them let me know. There are thousands of Ki/Qi exercises and you'll go crazy learning too many of them so keep it simple. You will notice big improvements in your health and MA practice. http://www.laughinghara.com/Books%20for%20Sale/qigong_books.htm Randall Sexton www.laughinghara.com >I have been reading and learning alot about ki or chi on my own over the years, and would recommend any books by B.K. Dear Andrew, i stand corrected, it is WTF that i learn with Tony Slaney, i hope that i have not confused anyone or bought any disrespect to my master, he's a great teacher but really scary at the same time! I now know to go straight to my teacher if i have any questions as it was a green belt that reliably informed me that we did ITF. How do you know of master Slaney? Have you ever trained with him? I feel very lucky to be training under him and a little bit unworthy of it at the same time. Like i said, sorry if an confusion was caused. Sincerely Wendy. Get more from the Web. After a while this concept almost gets wierd. One of the finer scenes is where the protagonist in a challenge match quite realistically throws his opponent completely through a wall of the dojo. Absolutely great movie, especially if you like judo, four stars. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Mr. Sexton, I wonder if you might be able to help me....this isn't really a MA question, but my girlfriend has a pretty severe case of bruxism, and I would like to help her, well I am only a student, and realize that I'm a long way from the kind of knowledge that might be helpful. Well is there anyone proficient in your field in the NW Florida area that I can take her to see? I think she has some ki flow problems, but I can't identify where the problem meridians are, nor do I know where to begin to fix them. Her teeth grinding is so loud that it will keep me awake for hours...she is also taking a selective seratonin reuptake inhibitor, I forget which one exactly, but I think she needs some help outside of the drug prescribers and tooth guard makers....any help is greatly appreciated (from Mr. Sexton or anyone else for that matter). Thanks in advance. Honestly, if I had found Aikido first, I probably would not have done Taekwondo. The biggest problems that I've had has been in developing the subtle movements to make Aikido techniques work. Taekwondo techniques have some room for error in their application that will still allow you to have an effect even if it didn't land the way that you wanted. Aikido doesn't have as much leyway. If you get stuck in the middle of a technique, you'll be the one on the ground. My Taekwondo has not helped my Aikido in anything other than being able to provide truly realistic attacks for my training partner. On the other hand, Aikido has done wonders for my Taekwondo. Its allowed me to see more of the kinesiology and body movements within the Taekwondo technique and improve their performance. I think a good deal of this has to do with personality. I'm not a bruiser or a brawler, so I like the softer, subtler applications even to kicks and strike.
