A book I've had in my library since about 1985 is "Ki In Daily Life" by Koichi Tohei. The book has experiments in Ki, breathing techniques, and much philosophy regarding Ki and its role in life. The author is the founder of the Ki Society International. It's a very thought provoking book. One of the principals for breathing involves meditation while breathing. Breath is controlled at a one breath per minute rate. This is quite a challenge; I've yet to master it for longer then several breaths. A friend who is Chinese tell me that it is because of evil in my life; he is an authority on Chi. At any rate the book is a good read on Ki principals written by a master in Aikido. Here are things I have tried and found to work. 1. First go to a dentist and make sure there is nothing wrong with here bite. 2. Wear a mouth guard a night, it will keep her from cracking her teeth. 3. Find a good chiropractor and make sure that her spine is not out of line, this can cause some of the problems. 4. Need to do exercises to strengthen the neck muscles. These might be weak and this can cause all kinds of problems. 5. A good masssage will help a lot. 6. Take Valerian root before bed time, it will help her to get a restful sleep. 7. Stretch in the mornings and all during the day, slowly move the head from side to side, back and forth, the more she gets movement back the better. When the muscles start to knot up it is hard to get them relaxed again. This would be a good time for a professional massage, it can do wonders. 8. Look at her diet, I have found trigger foods like sugar and some nuts that seem to make it worse. 9. When feeling especially stressed try and take a few minutes of quite time away from everything and just breath slowly and feel the muscles relax. 10. Try Yoga it is great for relaxing. I would be glad to "talk" with her if she would like, I know how bad this can get. She can email me at: denatkd@yahoo.com Dena --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! I think it is on the 19th of October, and I'm interested in meeting some of you face to face. I've been lurking on the DD with occasional input and questions for around a year, and have only come to realize that a goodly number of you are from South Florida. I think it is mainly a TKD tournament, but GM Park is also hapkido (that's what we train). I have only met him once and look forward to the chance to do so again. I also hope I can put a face to some of the personalities on this list! However, there are often other perpetuating factors such as myofascial trigger point activity and nutritional deficiencies. In my clinic, I treat this condition by using distal points such as GB-34 (Yang Ling Chuan), LI-4 (He Gu), and Tai Xi (Great Surge). The first point is the influential point of the tendons and sinews. It has a strong relaxing effect. The last two points are known as the Four (4) Gates. These two points promotes overall homeostasis and regualtes Liver Qi. Stress can be interpreted as Liver Qi constraint. I also use other points but these should be suffiecient to get the job done. I also recommend the Chinese herbal formulas of Xiao Yao San (Rambling Poweder or Free and Easy Wanderer) and Gan Mai Da Zao Tang (Licorice, Sprouted Wheat and Jujube Decoction). Xiao Yao San can be viewed as the herbal equivalent to the above-mentioned Four(4) Gates and Gan Mai Da Zao Tang can be considered an herbal sedative. Nutritionally, a combination of Calcium and Magnesium is recommended; Calcium: 1000 mg and Magnesium 500 mg. This comvbination is especialluy useful if taken about one hour before bedtime. Now, I am recommending all of the above without actually evaluating the person in question and formulating a differential diagnosis. However, this should be a good start based on my clinical experience. Good luck. Ian A. "North Korea made the proposal in a letter conveyed through liaison officers at the truce village of Panmunjeom on Sunday," said Park Song-uk, an official at the KTA. "In the letter, the North proposed that the South's taekwondo team hold one or two exhibitions in Pyongyang and visit several North Korean historic sites, including Tower of the Juche (self-reliance) and Mangyeongdae Children's Palace." The letter said that the group would fly into the North's capital via Beijing and stay at Koryo Hotel. "After consultations with related government offices like the Culture-Tourism and Unification Ministries, the association will send a reply to the North as soon as possible," the official said. In the letter, the North expressed hope that the South would take care of the team's travel costs, including plane fare, while the North will pay for the expenses for the demonstration team's stay in the North. During minister-level talks in Seoul in August, South and North Korean officials agreed to exchange taekwondo demonstration teams in an effort to foster a mood of reconciliation between the two Koreas. According to the agreement, the South Korean demonstration team will visit the North in mid-September, while a North Korean delegation will come to Seoul in October. Taekwondo, the Korean martial art, debuted as an official sport at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and was adopted as an official event for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. Currently, there are two governing bodies for the sport; North Korea-led International Taekwondo Federation (ITF), and the South-led World Taekwondo Federation (WTF). --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net It's a great day for Taekwondo!
