I was wondering if anyone had insight on the effectiveness of the art as well as how it correlates with traditional hapkido. Thanks! Eddie ---------- Edward J. I will caveat this by saying that I do support the competition and sport aspect of TKD as I have competed in numerous tournaments of all kinds and encourage my students to compete as well for the experience...Though my primary teaching focus is the art, the technique, and the self defense... having said that for whatever reason...here is the question... How many times is the WTF or USTU or whoever the heck is in charge now going to change the rules of competition?...every single year the rules change at least once...and not all the USTU/WTF tourneys seem to adhere to the same rules...even though the refs are suppose to be "Certified"... For such "Established" organizations...they seem to be totally disorganized when it comes to competition...let alone common sense... Anyone have a clue as to what is going on with all the rule changes? Pil Seung! The One and Only "Tink" Kim G. I have had a number of 5 and 6 year olds in my Jr. class but think it would be better to have a separate class for them. Century's program is set up well and includes a life skills program to go with the martial arts segment. The martial arts segment is flexible and will allow for you to teach the basic skills required in your particular style and curriculum. Discipline used by myself and my instructors follows the iManual standards, with warnings (both nonverbal and then verbal), time outs, and proactive management such as praising students that are well behaved and trying hard as well as speaking to problem cases before class and with parents present as the last resort. Keeping the parents out of it as much as possible seems work best. Also, we use "Rock Solid Kids" by Hafner and actually try to get parents to read and use it if possible. Using calisthenics can be counter productive to a number of activities we do, like fitness and conditioning. _______________________________________________________________________ Richard Zaruba Department of Anatomy & Cell Biology University of North Dakota School of Medicine 501 North Columbia Road P.O.
