Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net << 5 Pyong Ahn hyung we need only practice the single older KuShanku>> I've heard this many times, but do not agree with it. I've heard that the 5 pyung-ahn forms were just Kong-sang-koon (kushanku) split up into smaller parts. Sure there are a couple of similar techniques, but kongsangkoon is in no way the same as the pyungahns. Look at the trademark moves in each pyungahn, and you really don't see them in kongsangkoon. Kongsangkoon also has moves found in Bassai/Pasai, as well as having moves not seen in any other hyungs. But I guess if you read it somewhere that makes it true and the myth gets propagated... Think about it - look at the forms - if you do all the pyungahns as one form it does not mysteriously turn into kongsangkoon. Vise versa for splitting kongsangkoon into 5 smaller pieces - they wouldn't look like the pyungahns. Very many forms have similar moves in them and it doesn't mean they are derivatives of each other. Feel free to disagree :-) (I know, this is blasphemy) --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Wed, 09 Oct 2002 22:36:24 -0500 To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net From: Rob & Julie Frankovich Subject: [The_Dojang] Re: information request Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Greetings! GM Choon Lee and his BBs are excellent and friendly hosts. GM Lee's schools and GM Joon Y. Kim's schools from the Wichita area have a strong and friendly rivalry that are featured at this tournament and GM Kim's tournament inWichita, though many other schools attend. If I remember, the scoring is point-stop for Gups, continuous for BBs. I had thought it was an invitational, perhaps I'm wrong. If you can, give it a shot. :) Here's theURL for the tourny: http://www.akta.com/championships.html Kerry WTF TKD --__--__-- Message: 4 From: Bruce.Sims@med.va.gov To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Thu, 10 Oct 2002 07:08:34 -0500 Subject: [The_Dojang] RE:Hapkido in Provo, Utah? Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Dear Folks: I have a college student who has just started with me here in Illinois this semester and is planning on relocating to Provo, Utah. He was asking if there are any WHF/Yon Mu Kwan Hapkido schools out in that area. Failing that I would suppose that a Sin Mu Hapkido school would be a good alternative. He specifically mentioned that he was not interested in joining a TKD school which teaches Hapkido as an adjunct but prefers a dedicated Hapkido school. Anyone?
