When you can do one minute intervals without DYING then bump your time up to 3 two minute rounds doing the same thing, then bump it up to 3 minute rounds,, when you can do 3 three minute rounds like this full bore then cut your rest time down to 15 seconds,, by this time I GUARANTEE you that sparring will not be that difficult for you anymore,, I like to do this drill with a few of my guys so we can encourage the guy on the bag while you wait your turn,, trust me, you will need encouragement,, this is not easy but boy does it work!!! IMHO it is one of the best drills you can do,, I run, lift weights, yoga, and all that every week but THIS drill is the closest scenario training that you will need for what you want to accomplish, and it is a GREAT stress reliever. What I've found is that Hapkido and Aikido are very similar when it comes to certain joint locks, throws and redirecting the attackers energy. However, the philosophies are much different. Most Aikido dojos focus their teachings on harmonizing with the attacker and not hurting them. The founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba, during his later years had focused a lot on internal energy (ki) and ending confrontations in a peaceful manner. While I respect O'Sensei and other aikidoists for this philosophy, it is not very practical for the streets or the real world. I strongly believe that Hapkido is one of the most effective self-defense systems for the real world. You can still control and not hurt an attacker who is not a real threat (i.e. a drunk in a bar who just wants to push you around). But if you were fighting for your life I would feel much more confident knowing hapkido versus aikido. Having said that, there are some aikido schools across the country that do focus on the practical side of training. If you can find an Aikido school that has links to Larry Reynosa Sensei (one of Steven Seagals senior students), then I would suggest to go there first. I've personally trained with Reynosa Sensei, and believe me, his Aikido is the real deal. Very effective. Yoshinkan Aikido also seems to be a more practical and effective style of Aikido. That would be my second choice. You can go to www.makotodojo.com to find out more about Larry Reynosa Sensei and his Aikido. Good Luck. It's great because 30 seconds before the end of the round it "Dings" so people go harder. It's adjustable for 2 and 3 minute rounds and 30 secs and one minute rest. I designate stations, one for each member of the class. The stations are rotated each round. Stations can be . Hands on heavy bag, Feet on Heavy bag, hands and feet on heavy bag, Shadow sparring, patterns, kicking, step sparring, stretching, etc. we did a drill friday at sparring class with two shields on either side of the heavy bag.with this you have three targets.the instructor had each of us do two 45 second rounds with everyone egging us on.needless to say it was very tiring and also very complex since you can only hit each bag maybe 1-3 times before changing to another bag.it really works the possibility of fighting multiple opponents. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Thanks! I am told that Sa Dan Bup In members are the KHA and the Kidohae, while the International HKD Federation-Jae Nam Musul Won is Je Dan Bup In. Sa Dan Bup In is something like a corporation/incorporated body while the IHF is a jurdical body. Jae Nam Musul Won is also a non-profit organization, is the property of the Korean governement, and also requires more money/funding than the Sa Dan Bup In organizations. Ali M. My GM still teaches us some of the orignial curriculm of the Jidokwan. I don't know why they would say it is in active unless they mean they don't practice their original curriculm. Then again, very few of the kwans teach anything from the original curriculm. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Y! What I have noticed in the past is those folks have something against the Ji Do Kwan and those from the Ji Do Kwan. Not sure what or why, but based on their past erroneous statements they obviously have something against the JDK. But for the Kukki-Taekwondo poomsae the final two in the Dan-level set are Hansu and Ilyeo. Both are documented in the Kukki Taekwondo Text Book and the videos that accompany that book. Probably other places too...
