I use the pinch for shock value, now on a person who is high on something, pain wont be an issue to them, so you either need to dislocate, break joints, striking vulnerable spots (eyes, testicles, throat, etc), or in the most no other way out situation maim or kill. Each situation will dictate what tactic to be used. For instance, in high school I never attempted to break bones, or joints, but I would always mess with their egos doing like tricks. But when I've been in real fights I fight to live, by all means. Jye __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I have seen Iron Brooms techniques to back flip kicks "work" Perhaps a better wording is "get away with" rather than "work" . The real question is how much training time do you have to waste? If you are training in taijutsu, you have enough to learn without playing at "combat gymnastics". As to power, just train with someone like Tasuo Muramatsu, Jack Hoban, Greg Kowalsky, Charles Collins or Kevin Millis. None of these guys are very big, but they will put a hole right through you without even trying. THese aren't the only guys or gals with real power, but I have personally experienced what they can do. It is astonishing what correct technique will accomplish. I think a lot of the comments on this thread show some poor insight into training. Soke consisitently speaks on training with proper body dynamics on ALL techniques. Unsui san from Jinenkan is just as adamant on rigorous and proper training with correct body dynamics and power. Most of us have limited training time, and it is irresponsible for an instructor to waste valuable training and teaching time. I teach "by the book" The Tenchijin no maki is there for a reason- use it. Students must be taught the basic body dynamics, proper form, shinkangata (realisitic application) and power training. Muay thai pads are a great training aid, although we all need some serious contact occasionally to keep us real. If you don't get bruised a bit in training, maybe you need to kick it up a notch, especially if you have time to play with flying back spin kicks:-) nuff'said Thanks, W. It's like static electricity, it shocks you more then it hurts. When you go to touch some metal and get shocked, you kind of jump back for a second, not because it hurts but just because it caught you off guard, same principle here. I jump out of my skin when pinched on the inner thigh and especially on the triceps. If I'm messing around with my daughter and she wants me to stop, all she does is move her hand to the back of my arm and I stop pestering her immediately! He is much better at this stuff than I am, but remember, he said he had only met Chittim at his black belt test, so whatever info we have is handed down from Chittim to Doctor Jordan, the living head of our system, then to us. Also, I think Rhee got sent BACK to Korea to serve some time in the military, and I have heard Rhee was really young when he came over, but I have never heard of an age. You got me there man. There's a few KMA articles a year, plus a number of Japanese MA (which, after all, aren't so very far removed...) There was a nice two-part series on legal consequences of self defense recently. Personally, I really like it, but I'm a pedantic wanna-be academic. John W.
