Are they all on the Atkin's Diet or what?>> You can get the book and answer your questions. It's "The Okinawa Program" ISBN 0-609-80750-1 and is the results of a 25 year study. Includes diet and lifestyle. They ones who lived the longest also practiced Hapkido. They say he was taken in by an old okinawin man that was at least 145 years old and only ate beef and eggs,, Dr. Atkins they say learned the eating habits from this old man and when he finished his tenure on the island he swam out to a cruise ship in the harbor climbed the side of it with his now new high protein body and wrote his first two books after this, they say he is also responsible for the creation of the meat buffet on the cruise ships,,, fact or fiction? You decide.... Up until 6 months ago the ADA article was the only on published on atkins. The new studies he paid for -- so do they count? <> First thanks to Master Terry and the rest of the list member who may allready be at a BMI of 20-24, but for the rest of us with one big ab, we can either give up, or like our pursuit of martial science, seek out a diet excercise routine that matches our genetics and lifestyle. Having said that, thanks to Brooke and others for sharing valuable information. Now we must ask ourselves some questions. 1. Why does it take 19+ years to do any valid studies on Ketosis (sp?)? 2. Why is Dr. Atkins the first to pay for such a study which compares his diet to a "known standard?" 3. Who paid for studies that tell us how much meat, cheese and grain we should eat? What I'm getting at is that you make an excellent point. We should always look at the owner and motive of a study when evaluating it. Often, like myself, you take calculated risks to do your own research. Personally, I'm not interested in the results of any study performed or funded by say Pfizer, or for me done in the U.S. (I know the flames will start here). Without going to far of topic, I will just say that researching medical options for the birth of my two children taught me how much the AMA would like to keep from you (in a patriachal manner). Oops that was the soap box again... Long way of saying please post the newsletterand/or further McDougal wisdom either on the list or privately to me. My goal is to reach my target weight, and target HDL, LDL and Triglyceride levels in the healthiest way possible. So like my study of martial science I remain in inquiry. This is the bottom line on diet. You need to consult with a nutritionist. Doctors are not trained in this area very well. Also, I have noticed that many of them are not up on the various supplements available. (Stay away from Andro though, there is a class action law suit against its makers for Fraud). Also if memory serves, Okinawans eat little meat. After my uncle spent several tours there as a Marine honor guard, he complained quite extensively about the amount of fish, rather copious amounts of fish, he consumed. Kusanku Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Eamonn, I agree with Charles on all I've read: <> Except I believe it was in Okinawa. Others say it is the root form for the Pyung-ahn series of forms, which is a view I personally don't agree with. As far as any history, I too would refer to Mr. Eric Madis. I was just showing that form to my daughter last night. It's a fun form to perform, and if you are familiar with the Pyung-ahn's and Bassai it shouldn't be hard to learn as you will see many familiar techniques and sequences, with some new stuff thrown in. There are many texts with photos and descriptions, but if you want to see what it looks like performed, check out this video (uses M$ Windows Media Player): http://users.ev1.net/~d.mchenry/Movies/kongsangkoon.wmv Hope this helps. However if you do a search of the internet and her websites you only seem to find info on her business, publishing and TV accomplishments. Their dojang is just up the road from me and I used to be able to watch their Saturday morning class once a month when I went to the nearby shooting range to teach firearms safety. They have a nice large dojang and I recall a wide variety of color doboks in use. Something like green belts wearing green doboks, blue belts wearing blue doboks, etc. Just hope they don't use a camo belt... :) Ray Terry rterry@idiom.com --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net It's a great day for Taekwondo!
