These percentages are reversed when you are exercising very intensely, but that kind of high level doesn't last very long so overall fat remains the predominant fuel. ..... .......Think of the enzymes that burn fat molecules as a labor union of highly specialized workers. This union tens to go on strike a lot, especially when there is not enough oxygen. Your muscles may be begging for more energy during a fast run, but the fat-burning union, hating such stressful low-oxygen work, goes out on strike. The sugar-burning union just keeps humming along. The secret of aerobic exercise is to make the fat-burning union work as hard as possible without going on strike. If you can find just the right level at which the enzymes work hard bu happily, and if you can sustain that level for a long period, THE UNION WILL HIRE MORE WORKERS. Aerobic exercise, done just right, stimulates the growth of fat burning enzymes so that you can burn more fat as you exercise at higher levels of intensity. Covert Bailey SMART EXERCISE (Burning Fat, Getting Fit) In short, running slow and long = lose weight; running hard and fast = maybe not. TKD as with most MAs is anaerobic and so can be running. As you most likely have already noticed, there are many differences between the latest Vol. I by GM Suh, In Hyuck and the Red book by GM Seo, In Sun. GM Suh produced the three volume set to get better quality control over the WKSA since there was the Text by his brother and also one by Dr. Kimm. Anyway, the differences are too many to list and if you plan on joining the WKSA the red text will be a good reference and the black book will be your guide. Sincerely, Kevin M. I was just thinking moderation in all things that's all. I used to run cross country myself; now I know better. >Now let me get this straight, IF I run too much it will actually be counter productive to losing weight?? I guess I missed that article in the National Enquirer. My running regime as of now is,,,, 4 miles on mon, tues, wed, and thurs,, take off fri, run 12 miles either on sat or sun,,, and take the other day off,, lift weights on tues, wed, fri, sat, and sunday, Hapkido on Mon. and Thurs,, eat lots of meat and eggs, and salads,, very little fruit and hardly no sugar or starches at all,,, I eat about an hour or more after I lift weights,, it is always heavy protein and vegetables, and I don't really gauge when I eat after running but it is usually quite a while afterward, I run before I lift weights, the one thing I do is take plenty of vitaminns and right after I lift weights I take a good dose of Yohimbe bark and ginseng, I buy both of those herbs fresh and grind them myself, that will really rev you up!!! What do you guys think,, am I gonna die soon doing all of this or should I just read another book and ponder the metabolic and physiological ramifications of the centrifical futility of all of the mental masturbation associated with the plethora of literary experts who have never ran further than the proverbial ice cream truck or had to pace themselves heading for the metaphoric elevator door closing on their lives as it heads up to the 5th floor where all the health and fitness books are in the library, I don't know maybe I'll just drop back and punt? I like the Zen idea of when you think about something too much a priest slaps you across the face and tells you to live in the NOW... IMHO doing is always better than theorizing... I costed me only $50 and it was published in 1985. Its a little different than the one published in 1988. I seen them go for $100 plus on ebay every once and a while. I like it better than the black KSW book published by GM Suh. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. Lot's on these herbs. To keep it short, Ginseng used for centuries as antidepressant, aphrodisiac, soothe irritated internal tissues and organs, diuretic, sedative. Improves concentraion, healing, stamina, stress resistance, vigilance, work efficiency. Ginko used for peripheral vasclar insufficiency and cerebrovascular disease, increases mental alertness and overall brain function. So, what's the scoop on Yohimbe? Yohimbe has no FDA-sanctioned use in humans and has been on the USDA's unsafe herb list since March 1977. It has been used as an aphrodisiac for a long time in Africa (hey maybe those guys need it)and also as a hallucinogenic. Also used for orthostatic hypotension and Clonidine (blood pressure med) overdose. Most studies have been on male impotence. If you use it, monitor for CNS and cardiac effects and avoid caffeine. Some psych patients taking average daily dose of 12.5 mg had manic reactions. It also takes your brain, I think 20 minutes to register a full stomach so not gulping helps also. Oh, man you are so wrong...there is so much literature which suggests a different opinion. While we're on the topic of herbal supplements and stuff, I wanted to point out that what a LOT of martial artists are doing these days is medicating their training. Instead of taking a disciplined approach (E.g. making yourself concentrate, train hard, get good diet/sleep and water etc), often we'll pop a pill or supplement. (Creatine will help me recover faster, so I can make it back to the gym tommorrow!). Eventually we lose our sense of inner balance. We simply become unable to make our selves "concentrate" or whatever without the supplements. I know that my teachers advocated being self reliant, instead of relying on things/or people. I do have my feelers out to a couple of knowledgeable KSW personnel and will respond if I find anything out. However, I only use these books for basic reference as they sometimes are quite confusing (especially on hyungs) and I don't think are very practical for actual learning. michael whalen KSWnut --__--__-- Message: 12 Date: Wed, 27 Nov 2002 07:58:31 -0800 (PST) From: tg dewey To: The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] POTATO Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net LOL...
