Video...Stone Stamps/Seals (Charles Veuleman) Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Hi, don't know if im being a little too obvious or not, not knowing how au fait you may be with the subject, but here goes. Your camera is a hi-8 analogue device right? It doesnt have usb ports, so linking up that way is out of the question. What you can do however to get your footage onto your pc is use the s-video i/o port on your camera to link up to a video capture card in your pc. you should also be able to use a standard video card with tv in / out features to get your footage onto your pc. Then you would need some form of editing software to go with it, I should think you could use MS movie maker to do this editing / capture, but i'm not positive, never having had to use it myself. The software in question is a standard part of windows (assuming you are running ME upwards) and i have been told it gives good results. Here are some links to analogue capture cards:- ADS USB Instant DVD: http://www.sharbor.com/products/ADSI5010005.html Pinnacle Studio Deluxe: http://www.sharbor.com/products/PINI5010013.html Both products will allow you to capture analog video, edit it and send it out to DVD and or VHS. (or use with movie maker / etc to convert to avi, divx, w.h.y) Most AGP cards now have s-video i/o onboard, so getting it hooked up shouldnt be a problem for you, if you dont have an s-video lead with it they only cost a few quid. i hope this has helped. Regards, Neil. p.s. Apparently Sony sell / have sold an analogue to digital converter too, if you needed to use usb to capture it, which would bequicker, but im told they cost around $350. --__--__-- Message: 3 From: "Chris LaCava" To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Sun, 01 Dec 2002 09:35:22 -0500 Subject: [The_Dojang] Re: Stone Stamps/Seals Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Charlie V: You may be able to do one yourself. All you need is some time, effort and something you can use to etch with. I have done two for myself, because either I am too cheap or just wanted to try it out myself(probably some of both). I was happy way the last two turned out. Basic materials... 1. An engraving tool. I used a Dremel but you can use anything that will etch the surface. 2. a pencil 3. blank chop. You can use anything from saopstone to wood to metal. just remember the harder the surface, the more time and effort is needed. oh.. and what you want translated into Korean. :) If you have ever seen those small asian calligraphy kits, they usually have a 1/2" chop included in the kit. They are normally made out of soapstone or soft material so if anything is on them already you can take some sandpaper to take it off. Computers are great because once you have the translation you can take any graphic program and flip it around so you have a reverse image. If you don't have access to those programs just take the translated material and tape it face forward to a well lit window. From there, draw that reverse image on the blank chop. Take your dremel and using a very fine engraving cutter (I used a dremel bit #105), follow what you have drawn. ...and that's all. Besides the initial grunts and occational obsinities, it was well worth it. I guess, like anything, the more you do something, the easier and more enjoyable it gets. Who would have thought!? ;) Here is a page that has prints of the chops I did. (this is the only link) http://lmaa.bravepages.com/chop.htm I hope this helps. Good luck & take care Charlie. You use to be able to get hangul wood dojang/name seals from Sang Moo Sa, but I had heard they either do not do it anymore, or you may not get what you expected. Obviously, you can get them in Korea or China [and cheaply], but if you are not going and do know someone going you are out of luck. Also, Chinese seals require careful translation to avoid potentially silly final products. While I do not know where to get Korean seals in the US, I think the following site does Chinese ones: http://www.goodcharacters.com/index.html I've done no work there as I got mine direct from the mainland, but heard ok thinks about them. Besides, Chinese Seals are the more traditional even in Korean arts. Mac may also know someone who does some in California. Hope this helps. (Charles Veuleman) Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Video to CD or the net - I recently obtained ATI's TV Wonder - USB edition. In addition to allowing me to watch TV in a small box in the corner of my screen while I work on other things - it allows analog video feed into the computer and allows you to use your system as a digital VCR. The software that comes with it provides reasonable video editing capabilities - but I'm just learning to use the tool myself and don't know whether the limitations I've encountered are the software product's limitations or mine. I also have video editing software from Sony - which came with my laptop, but I haven't yet begun to explore - I'm told by other's that it is superior in its capabilities. I understand that some of the other products out there provide a greater range of video resolutions - but the ones bundled with the ATI product should be adequate to put forms to disk. The company can be found at the following URL: http://funalliance.com/ Be warned the owner is kind of zany but in a good way.
