Hi Craig: >From the way I read the article, GM JI himself tells the interviewer that this man is to be his "shadow" and successor. I can foresee a mountain of problems with this (or any other successor). Like Ray alludes to in his post, I begin to wonder if it is worth while to even name a successor. If we look at recent happenings in TKD, we see that the ITF splintered even before GM Choi passed away. No one seemed to care what GM Choi's wishes were. The problem is also not Korean martial art specific, and I can recall similar problems when GM Ed Parker passed away. As I see it, we will soon have so many splinter groups that the only real thing that matters is what one has to teach to his or her followers. We just need to educate folks to take a good hard look at whom they choose to follow. Perhaps today's leaders need to document their art, set aside the higher education of it, and leave that to their successor in a legal will. In this way, other students who may lay claim will not even have learned enough of the art to bother following. On second thought, that won't work either. All you have to do is take the piece that you do have, mix it with a dab of another art, call it some eclectic name, and presto -- you have a new art and a new Grandmaster:) Sincerely, Rudy --__--__-- Message: 3 From: "Andrew Pratt" To: "Dojang Digest" Date: Wed, 18 Dec 2002 09:42:34 +0900 Subject: [The_Dojang] Taekkyon Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net FYI http://times.hankooki.com/lpage/sports/200212/kt2002121716545311630.htm Andrew --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net It's a great day for Taekwondo!
