I'd like to know these techs, also. I have a lady in a wheel chair in my class, and she asked me a while back to help her. I'm trying to figure out how to modify regular self defense techniques to ones she can do. She has a mean backfist, and a good grip (hand strength). I think she could do wrist and arm locks really well. Maybe some techniques that involve these would be great. Part of the documentary involved filming him training with his Judo instructor. He was superb, had a pair of light metal crutches he used to devesating effect. Easily managed takedowns from longer ranges than any normal person could manage, and could roll on the ground with the best of them, sort of stick-grappling in a way, he could easily apply chokes and locks with his crutches. Also was very accurate in terms of being able to just plain hit people with those crutches- again at longer range than a non-handicapped person with just arms/legs could ever manage! --__--__-- Message: 4 From: Dragons81@aol.com Date: Thu, 19 Dec 2002 07:15:10 EST To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Chair Techniques Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net In a message dated 12/19/02 6:02:32 AM Eastern Standard Time, the_dojang-request@martialartsresource.net writes: > Actually, in hindsight, I guess my fav 'chair' technique -is- the WWF (now > WWE) steel chair technique. i.e. pick up the chair and hit them over the > head with it, repeatedly... > > :) > Unfortunately even that is watered down.. most chair shots are to the back, and ones to the head are obviously blocked. The last wrester I remember being repeatededly hit in the head with a chair was New York Times best selling author Mick "Mankind" Foley at Royal Rumble 99. The reason he didnt block those 11 or so chair shots was that he had his hands cuffed behind him. --__--__-- Message: 5 From: Ray Terry To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net (The_Dojang) Date: Thu, 19 Dec 2002 05:20:41 -0800 (PST) Subject: [The_Dojang] Important new works in modern Korean history (fwd) Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Forwarded message: Another new work which may have had less attention so far - being written by a Russian in Australia, and brought out by a small British publisher is: Andrei LANKOV. From Stalin to Kim Il Sung: the Formation of North Korea, 1945-1960. London: C Hurst & Co, Nov 2002. pp xviii, 202. Price =A335 pounds, hardback. www.hurstpub.co.uk Dr Lankov has worked extensively in the Russian archives. I have yet to see Charles Armstrong's book, but it sounds as if they may complement one another. They would surely make a fine pair for a joint review. Those unfamiliar with Andrei Lankov and his work can find a selection, in English and Russian, on the very useful North Korea website maintained by his compatriot and fellow-Antipodean resident, Leonid Pletnov. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net As I re-read the article, I saw that Chris made the statement that they were keeping him a secret from the rest of the HKD world. If I remember correctly TKDTimes had other feature articles on this guy. Why wasn't he announced the shadow back then? I haven't asked my instructor or my wife yet, but when GM Ji says they will call the 2nd man, does that hold the meaning that we are taking it for or does it just mean, "hey this guy will be doing it the same way I do". As far as the him saying he was the only westener to learn the old style art, well let's just blow a big hole into that. The biggest one being that he learned under GM Ji, and he taught his version of Hapkido not GM Choi, Young-sool's Yawara. So he learned a second generation system of HKD and even that was learned under GM Ji's students mostly. Has anyone discussed in great lengths about this interview with GM Ji? __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable.
