I can appreciate the nature of your questions regarding the Horizon site, and I believe what you wrote was not intended as a personal attack. Part of it is that the school is small, and my understanding is that the web page itself exists solely through extra work the instructors have put in. I don't know to what proportion John and Rick have put forth for the page monetarily and timewise, although I believe John is the point person for contact with the hosting company. Like I said before, neither Rick nor John are putting a ton of money in their pockets, I am surprised there is a web site at all. John is not in public relations to the best of my knowledge, and I do not believe he intended the web site to be a comprehensive resume of his or Rick's martial arts background. What I know is that a lot of people on this list put a premium on what they see 'on the mat'. From Rick and John, I believe what I see is a love for martial arts and good technique, and a dedication to the community and those in it whether they are students or not--like I believe you and many other instructors have for your communities. I believe the compressed list you saw at the site is to show involvement over time and continued training and education, and interest in the community, not an intentionally shortened list as a 'dodge' or hustle. Based on my experience with both men, they are happy to answer questions to anyone. Is it possible that other sites such as these come from similar circumstance? He is not trying to sell tapes or ranking through the site, it looks to me as if he is trying to provide some general information to the best of his ability. Honestly, while I believe at your comments were likely not intended as a personal attack, they do come off as sounding suspicious both to sites like this one and John's training in particular. If you had a positive suggestion, why not phrase it as such? Something like: "I noticed that all of John's Dan testing dates weren't on the web site. I think the site would come off better to prospective students if that information was included." Or even "Sometimes I see unethical instructors who purposefully attempt to mislead prospective students with bogus 'credentials' on their web sites. The Horizon site could benefit from a more comprehensive statement of each instructor's training so people do not lump them into that category." At least then it looks like you are giving them the benefit of the doubt. Or whatever suggestions you might have, I'm sure he would appreciate them. His e-mail address is on the web site. Or perhaps a thread on what characteristics of good martial arts school web sites you have seen recently. I certainly hope I did not come off improperly before, as I fervently believe that it is inappropriate for students, or their parents, to inquire or demand knowledge of what an instructor does with their portion of fees/dues/tuition! Or any profession for that matter. I believe that is a separate issue from inquiring as to the nature of dues/tuition/fees, and even in that context I believe the instructor/administrator should only provide as much information as they are comfortable providing. I think providing at least general information allows prospective students to make more informed decisions, and provides you with an opportunity to discuss such things as the benefits of belonging to a larger organization, if such applies. Your brochure sounds excellent, and your policies sound more than fair and resonable; it was not my intent to question them. I also totally understand your frustration with parents. My wife is a teacher. My mother is a teacher. On my mom's side, my grandfather was a principal and my grandmother was a teacher. My paternal great grandmother was a pricnipal. My sister is a teacher. On that note, I also know a lot of teachers through said family members, and there are more family members who are teachers such as cousins, etc . . . . I volunteer for many activities through my state and local bar associations to go to elementary and secondary schools so I get to see some things firsthand. I can only imagine the stories you have, and I can tell you I have heard some doozies! In the end, I actually think we agree on most points, and I am glad for the opportunity to participate and share ideas in this forum. He also haas a number of other excellent books you might consider. He will be at the Jackson seminar in March, that might be a great time to get a signed copy. Sincerely, Rudy...." I would go with Rudys' suggestion. There are, of course the original "Red Book' that was put out by the Kuk Sool Won years back. The photography was pretty bad and the proof-reader must have been working under some kind of terrible deadline given all the typos, misplaced pics, and so forth. I understand that there is another set of books that now have replaced the original organizational materials but maybe these are only available from THE World Kuk Sool Won Assn. Personally, and this is just me, I very often rate the art by the sorts of attitudes it turns out and not only by the technical material.
