He is our school's GM and teaches both TKD and HKD, and was a student of the late GM Choi, Young Sool. Eric Walker < I am looking for an authentic Hapkido school, that teaches mainly or only Hapkido, in the Tampa, Florida area. The newly updated LVNR course features expanded medical and safe subject care and handling sections, as well as many new tactical applications. Updated and enhanced graphics and text improve ease of training and learning by officers. The system provides for officer safety and survival with defense and control options for handcuffing, escorting, or confronting aggressive or assaultive subjects. The LVNR system was developed by law enforcement trainers for police use, and extensively and successfully field tested by police officers. It has been used safely and effectively for nearly 33 years. The Ground Defense/Control Tactics program teaches officers to control subjects standing, kneeling or resisting while on the ground, and to defend themselves on the ground when necessary. Deputy Brad Inman of the Kent County, Rhode Island Sheriff's Office developed this course, which is recognized as one of the preeminent ground defense and control systems now being offered to law enforcement officers across the nation. Chief NLETC National Trainers for these courses will be: Bob Bragg, Seattle, WA Sgt. Bill Conroy, Kansas City, MO John Delgado, Miami, FL Raul Guerrero, Kansas City, MO Deputy Brad Inman, Warwick, RI Lawrence "Sonny" Lynch, Clinton, MO Steve Uhrig, Santa Clarita, CA This training meets Missouri P.O.S.T. approved continuing education requirements and is P.O.S.T. approved through the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Academy. The NLETC invites your trainers to become certified to teach your officers how to control subjects safely and effectively with proven life-saving dynamic techniques. I've seen them practice before. They run their kibons for a warm up, they frown on kicking above your own waist level, and they use lead leg kicking techniques exclusively, at least they did while I was watching. What I liked about the Shorin Ryu was they could use their hand techniques as well as the TKD guys used their kicks. I also thought being five feet tall would seem more realistic to learn this style. Most Okinawan men are short folks. The karate dojo also used unique training drills to teach the student how to use their techniques, and I must say, it would be tough getting accustomed to being less than arms length away from my opponent. The kata or hyung as we all call them, are more darting, and the blocking techniques are more forceful, and the stances are more upright, their Keema jasae was just a mere shoulders' width apart. He said he has seen the NKMAA website is very much interested. He has also expressed interest in the AAU TKD program. I hope he can settle on what direction he wants to take his school. Right now he is affiliated with the KATU. I think he wants in with the AAU for the tournament exposure it could offer for he and his students. At class there is alot of stress put on kicks and throwing combinations of kicks. At home I stay with basics. After stretching and general warmups we run the three basic blocks, the lung punch, and front kick using the front stance. I try to make sure he is performing his stances correctly. Tonight, I noticed he isn't turning his supporting leg during the roundhouse kick so we ran roundhouse kicks from a full side on keema jasae, and it worked. He started to turn his supporting leg correctly. I learned this training drill from a Shuri Ryu karate instructor. Fred __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! I am humbled by the amount of knowledge and experience that has come back in the form of replies. I will confess that I am not a Psychologist or therapist but have worked through my own low self esteem over the course of time training and with the help of my teachers. I can assure him that steady consistent training in the Martial arts changes those who put their hearts and soul into it. I can train him in the martial arts, and if we are patient we will both grow. I will need some time to cull through the vast riches of knowledge I have received, and to reflect on my own motives and course of guidance. I believe that my most important asset to guidance and instructing is to live the martial way if front of my students, to be an instructor of honesty and integrity is my most humble and useful calling. KATU means he is with Hwang's ITF TKD group (http://itf-katu.com). I'd say that is pretty good...
