In Texas there is a Bagua player who is not held in high regards by those in the know. I heard some Chinese say that, "at least he spreads the word about bagua." Can't remember his initials, but his name is John Painter, that's Capt. John Painter, Ph.D.. Randall Sexton www.LaughingHra.com "If you understand, things are just as they are... Too all the GM's on this list, would you be willing to travel to Chicago if we had a massive gathering up here?....." I have been working with another HKD person (Joe Connolly, Skokie, Ill) to organize a corps of instructors to regularly underwrite visits by GM Myung to the Chicago area. However, I would be more than willing towork to establish a similar group who would regularly develop a weekend twice a year to get people gathering in the Chicago area. The only catch that I would have is that I would only support Korean Martial Arts. Sorry. I know there is a lot of talk about egalitarianism and how we are all brothers under the do-bok. Still, I am a KMA practitioner and I feel I must draw a line somewhere. Thats just me. Other people may feel differently. I will be down there again, and am looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones at this year's event. I will have a few copies each of "Hard-Won Wisdom," "Hapkido Hoshinsul," and "Streetfighting Essentials" with me. Good time to get a signed copy without having to pay postage. A number of people on this list have read, viewed or both the book and videos, and even though I am biased, I have seen hundreds of videos and I would include mine in the top for actually teaching something. Too many out there don't teach. Anyway, Looking forward to a great time and seeing everyone! It would be a basis for support, growth, and recognition. This would require thinking outside the box......" PUllease, don't take this personal, OK? I am going to stop you right at this point, though, because you are making a mistake. The whole point of getting together is NOT to either save or lose ones' shirt. The moment we start talking like this the activity goes in the shi**r, 'kay. Please consider the following. 1.) We do not need to have a big response or even a large number of practitioners to pull such an event off. I am dead serious that we could start with maybe 30- or 40- people. The trick is not how many we can get to come to a single event but how many would be will to make coming to such an event a regular part of their yearly training. 2.) The Horner center in Chicago, and maybe even the school where I teach--- College of Lake County could probably host such an event. People would need to tally-up the overhead and split it evenly among the participants. The goal is not to turn a profit, but to develop an opportunity for folks to get together and expand their base in either their own art or another related art. Sorry, Ian, but I don't see this as a commertial venture but an educational one. 3.) We DON'T NEED another organization!! We do need a group of folks who would be willing to gather once or twice a year and share what they know, and be willing to learn what other people know. I would strongly discourage recruitment of any kind. FWIW. In attendance will be Master Rudy Timmerman of the NKMAA, Master Geoff Booth of the International HapKiDo Alliance, Master Ray Terry of SinMoo Hapkido, Master Vic Cushing of International Modern HapKiDo Federation and host of HapKiDo folks representing various organizations from around the planet, including a group of ICHF folks. Even Dr. Kimm of the world HanMuDo Assn. will be there. We do our best to leave all the organizational crap outside for three days and spend our time making friends, swapping "experiences" and if we're not careful, we might even learn something. As far as getting all the masters together, I think that this is as close as we'll get for a while, but it is a start...J. R. Let me seek to provide some clarification. My point is and was very simple. I posted my history, John Pellegrini hides his. Which one is uncomfortable with a closer inspection? Him or me? If you actually visited my web site, you need to work a bit on your reading skills. I offer instructional seminars to those school owners in the IMHF who want them and only expect my out-of-pocket expenses for travel, lodging, and meals to be covered so I don't lose money. These seminars are not a source of income for me. They are mat time for my members at low cost to them. I am not in the seminar selling business. You would have no way of knowing what seminars or training sessions I have set up because they are not being sold on the internet. They are being held to help the member of the IMHF learn. I will never therefore have a posted schedule. And by the way, if this isn't just a troll at work, what the heck is the bur under your saddle? By the way if you want see what my stuff is like, come visit, no charge for training, just sign a release. I even have a spare bedroom you can bunk in. Don't hold your breathe for that offer from John Pellegrini. It sounds as if you are measuring Hapkido skill based on sales, which is not my approach at all. John Pellegrini may be the leading money maker on the Martial Arts Seminar circuit filling more seats than the next Rolling Stones Tour, selling more video tapes than Blockbuster, and living in a mansion bigger than the one Bill Gates hangs out in. None of that changes the amount of puffery involved in his operation. I lived in Chicago, trained with GM Hyun and no other organization. When I moved to Pennsylvania where there were no near by Hapkido GM's. I drove to train with another GM in New Jersey. John Pellegrini was getting a lot of publicity and then I joined his organization because it did help position the schools I started in the Scranton, PA area. My competition was composed of schools which were virtually exclusively TSD. To have a draw that potential students might recognize as opposed to Cushingdo. I joined the ICHF. After my very first meeting with John Pellegrini he asked me if I wanted to buy a 4th Dan or 5th Dan rank. This was at a seminar given by Barry Rodemaker in Erie, PA. I told John Pellegrini that I thought it made sense to retain my then current rank of 4th Dan for while. Seems to me the issue isn't "Organization Jumping", but mat time. If you are making a choice between hard work, sweat, and blood on the mat, you might want to pick the guys who have paid their dues, and not just select someone who has been clever at working the system so they have another certificate to hang on the wall.. When I decided to leave his organization in 1999, he blocked my direct affiliation with GM SEO, In Sun. After his ill conceived bad mouthing in a recent TKD Times article where he attacked and labeled anyone who had left his organization as an imitator, a fly-by-night, and other libelous terms, I wrote to Kido Hae and requested that based on his behavior they allow me to be directly affiliated with them. That request was granted late in 2002 On John Pellegrini's packed seminar schedule is a date on 21 JUN 2003 in Minneapolis. It so happens I will be in that city on the same date. Perhaps you could ask John if he wants to share the floor. He can demo his stuff and I will demo mine and then everyone can decide. TG why don't you broker the deal? Yes, folks at UNLV were complaining about the problems that are plaguing the US Open right now. After last year's low participation, due to 9-11, a smaller venue was secured. Then ~1,500 participants from ~50 countries flood in, and a max of six rings just isn't enough. Yet it seemed like things were getting done, just taking longer and running a little bit later into the day.
