As previously mentioned here, anyone buying a KTA (Korea TKD Assoc) cert from Florida or most any where can assume it is bogus. The KTA only issues certs for (1) some Korean citizens living abroad or (2) people that are living in S.Korea. And then only up to 5th Dan. But we have also been advised that KHF (Korea HKD Fed) certs from that same source may also be bogus. At least they don't seem to match KHF certs that are known to be good. Just a heads-up to be careful of how you spend your $$. But if you really want paper, I'll be glad to print up some very pretty certs for you. Prices available upon request... :) Ray Terry rterry@idiom.com --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Tue, 25 Feb 2003 16:32:09 -0600 (CST) From: To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] =?iso-8859-1?Q?Re:Following_up_my_follow-up_?= Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Dear Folks: In my earlier post to Garrett I mentioned the following. "....I have seen various colleges and High Schools use this format for "retreats" where people are required to come from great (6-8 hours) distances. The participants are "locked-in" for the night and this goes on all weekend. In fact, as I write this, perhaps this might be something worth checking out at the college I instruct at just to see what is entailed....." I did take the time to contact College of Lake County and report the following result. Please do not automatically assume that what I am about to say would be the same everywhere. In my case I teach at the college and also am advisor to the HwaRang Hapkido Club there so let me share this two ways. #1. If Joe Hapkido comes in off the street and wants to rent the Gym for a weekend it goes for about $100US/hr. That is computed on how many hours one stays in the building so an overnighter, I'm guessing would mean the equivalent of 12 hours per day or $2400 for the weekend. The gym is reportedly booked until the end of August. #2. If a staff member and advisor to a recognized Club on campus wants to use the gym it may be available under the Student Activities schedule which would be no cost to the club but would make them responsibile for the building for that weekend. I wasn't able to get a clear response about the over-night thing in that case, and there is a ton of paperwork and at least three levels of Bur. to work through. All the same the gym would not be available until after the end of August. #3. The traditional location for such events in Chicago has been the Horner Center on the Chicago Northside. Last time I checked it was about $200 to $400 to use for the weekend, but there is no way they will authorize an overnight. #4. There is still the idea of using a Holiday Inn and trade off using a couple of meeting rooms for a promise to direct participants to stay overnight in the Hotel. One hand DOES wash the other.... Anyhow, I mentioned that I would follow-up and here is some information to chew on. Once again, let me ask that people use the DD to mull this project over so that everyone can benefit from the process. We have often bitched on this Net about how bad events make for bad feelings. Joining in on this planning process might be a way to learn about how to organize a decent event, yes? Best Wishes, Bruce --__--__-- Message: 3 From: "Hapkido Self Defense Center" To: Date: Tue, 25 Feb 2003 21:11:47 -0500 Subject: [The_Dojang] School involvement Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net <> Yearly, during the fall, the local D.A.R.E. program organizes a car and bike show as a fund raiser and awareness raiser. We provide self defense workshops and hapkido demonstrations free to the public at this event. Every summer we provide free workshops at the local public library for specific age groups. Every fall we close down one day a week for 8 weeks to provide classes at the local elementary school as a fund raiser for the school and the PTA. We do a 6 week one every winter. We are in the middle of one now. Harrison is a small town on the Ohio, Indiana border just outside of Cincinnati. There is not a local event that one of our students is not involved with. We not only support all local charity events but even ones on the other side of Cincinnati, because that is where some of our students live. Jere R. To GM Timmerman, I have the utmost respect for you, you are always there for me, NKMAA is the greatest thing since sliced bread, there are no politics, everytime I have questions, they are answered immediately, the prices are almost too good to be true, I am proud to be a student of GM Timmerman and a NKMAA School Charter Member as well, I will always support NKMAA in all events, The need for a Northern Region National Seminar is evident, and GM Timmerman is the GM that we should all follow in this quest, if we all put our heads together and support one another, this will work. Sincerely, Troy Trudeau NKMAA, WTSWA.COM --__--__-- Message: 5 From: Ray Terry To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net (The_Dojang) Date: Tue, 25 Feb 2003 19:52:48 -0800 (PST) Subject: [The_Dojang] Sport TKD Calendar Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net The_Dojang's calendar of Sport Taekwondo Events Feb 26, 2003 http://MartialArtsResource.com http://the-dojang.net Dates and locations subject to change. 2003 14th European Junior Chip Feb 28-Mar 2 Athens, Greece AAU Michigan Quals March 1 Mt.
