Thanks for the kind words there Charles Richards! I really appreciate it. ( and chul gi three...do you have that written out anywhere? ) My group had a BLAST! I don't care what martial art you practice, there was something there for you in Jackson, even if it was just Ding How (If you don't know, you didn't go). I think the short uniforms went over...okay....HAHA. Got some strange looks, noticed a couple of fingers being pointed ( you know who you are ) but my favorite part was that most people where kind enough to come up and ask about it, and not get uptight over cotton canvas. I was/am really impressed with the amount of checked ego's in jackson this weekend. Everybody just wanted to learn and socialize and have a great time. Also, if you have never met or listened in on Master Mac, you have missed a wonderful opportunity to soak up some of his knowledge, as with all of the instructors. If you have never met JR West, he is hands down the funniest person I have ever met, not stand up comedy funny, more like mess with you while you arm is about to snap off funny. Anyway, to sum it all up, be there in August. See ya there. YITMA, Charlie Veuleman ===== ------------------------------------- L. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Greetings to all my dojang brothers and sisters, My name is Allen Sharpe and I am affiliated with the World Tang Soo Do Association under Grandmaster Jae Chul Shin. I have a studio in the Spring, Texas area (hello Master Mac!) where I instruct in the arts of Tang Soo Do,Hapkido and Korean Kempo. I have found the discussions on this resource very interesting and informative and thought I would introduce myself to the participants. My training began in 1970 in Seoul, Korea and although it has been many years ago (along with the bruises and pain!) I still have the same desire to excell as I did back then. I feel stimulated with the discussions I have read and would like to be a part of them. I am planning on attending the seminar in Houston at Ms. Kat Kelly's dojang (with Kwan Jang Nim Timmerman) and hope to make the Mississippi seminar in October (I was planning on going this month but I am making preparations to attend our annual Master's Clinic in Alabama). I look forward to meeting new friends and seeing old ones. Just as one example, a wooden tanto (kinfe) goes for about $4. One thing I also did was make an outline of a [pick your tactical folder of choice] on a piece of molding. Rough it out, sand, tool dip the grip, and you have a cheap wooden trainer fairly similar to your carry knife. The concerns seem to be some felt I was publicly "scolded". THIS WAS NOT THE CASE!!! Here is my response to those whom may feel this way: "Please allow me to tell you that Saja Nim Timmerman's comments on the Dojang Digest were in no way a "scold". You can rest assured that he would never behave in that manner. As he stated he would have enlightened me privately but thought others could use the clues as the Digest is such a relaxed forum. I merely took "the advise" as it was given! I feel as SJN Timmerman feels that you should be completely relaxed or completely formal. Try not to get in the habit of being in-between. I thank you for your concern and will post a general copy on the DD in case any others feel I was publicly "scolded". I again thank you for your concerns, and please know we Texas woman are pretty tough to scold or insult. Two reasons could get me there... One: Good Martial Arts People Two: Good Food I got both down at Master West's. I was a little hesitant on heading down alone from the Northeast, but I was welcomed with open arms and a mean southern buffet. Master West may have originally came from the north, but he has got his southern hospitality down pat! As far as the events went... So many talented practitioners from different martial arts and organizations in one place was a breath of fresh air. The biggest part was that everyone was a very cooperative and no one had a condescending attitude or out of whack ego. I am looking forward to seeing everyone again next year (Charles V, Nathan, Ray, Greg & Sara, Rusty, Joe, Don, Charles & Rodney, Vic, etc, etc, etc.) If I named everyone I had a good time with Ray would kick me off for use of too much bandwith. Thanks again Master West. They are looking for any input onto what foreigners would like to see on their international site. I have already mentioned ideas such as articles on ki (chi) development and other ideological aspects to the art. However, I am one mind you can help me make this a truly powerful tool for all martial artists. So, please post here or email me at beowulf600@hotmail.com if you have any input. If I don't return your email I apologize. I promise that I will read all of ideas, but I may not have the time to respond to everyone. Also, if anyone has any information on Master Hackworth I believe the federation would be interested in knowing it. Please, no secondhand stories, just the facts. I have been reading several postings that shed an unfavorable light on him and would like to know why. Thank you for your help in advance. John A. Most of those you weapons mentioned can be purchased through many places like Cetury, Asian World, or others. Just make sure you set up a wholesale account, or prepare to be gouged. As for canes, the best for practice and carry, IMHO are from Mark Shuey, a hapkidoist and a master craftsman. He can make most of the weapons you mentioned custom. Some are viewable on the www.canemasters.com website. The best route is to call him and get a quote on exacly what you want. You name it, if it is wood, he can craft it.
