Now playing the devil's advocate: why do you bow? Bowing is a Korean (Asian) custom. Does it make the respect of your students more sincere to use a Korean sign of respect, then to use a more Americanized approach? Not that I totally disagree with you, but I think it may be a little harder to draw the line between those Korean cultural customs we adopt to honor the art and those we discard, than you are intimating. I seemed to generate quite a response this time around....thank you. I was taught, and discovered by reading on my own, that "kukki" or "kukgi" was the Korean term for the Korean Flag. Kyung Ye or Kyung Yet is definitely "bow". "Bae Rae" is new to me however. I think that's what I was looking for. As for my inquiry for the Korean term for "school rules", one person suggested "kwan gyu chik" (Klaas, was that you??) Is there a sense of agreement on that one from you folks?? Thanks again for all the replies. I appreciate it. Chulgi Chodan looks the same as Naihanchi Chodan (execpt the way Master Jackie Smith does it :-), and the stuff I've seen on Chulgi Edan looked like Naihanchi Edan and Samdan put together. There were a lot of differences from when I first learned Edan and Samdan than how TSD does it and I had to make a lot of changes (I don't even remember the old way I used to do it - more from ShotoKan). Charles gave a list of books: Kyohan- Funakoshi (Tekki III) Karate Jutsu-Funakoshi (English translation) GM Lee, Kang Uk's Book on Tang Soo Do available from amazon.com in paperback. There is also GM Hwang Kee's Volume II on MooDukKwan TangSooDo/SooBahkDo that goes over the advanced hyung including Nihanchi Samdan. And yes, I do a flavor of it on my web site http://McHenry.homeip.net/TangSooDo/Movies/naihanchi3.wmv Hope this helps, Mac ________________________________________________________________ Sign Up for Juno Platinum Internet Access Today Only $9.95 per month! It was once explained to me (incorrectly??) that kuk ki could also refer to the USA national flag, i.e. it meant national flag not Korean national flag. ?? Since here in the states the Korean and USA flags are on the wall together, I just considered that I was saluting the US flag.
