I am 32 and the youngest student in the class. I am a 1st dan and I frequently teach while GM Rim introduces Hapkido to the newer students. What I do is show you the technique on someone else first and then I tell you how to fall. Then I do the technique slowly. Its only after I have done the technique on you many times that I will increase the pain. Some instructors under GM Rim fell that all techniques should be applied full force. But you only get students that don’t come back. Most of the students at our school are in their 50's. I hope this helped. Find a school that teaches slowly. I had 18 students pass their test in order to advance to the next rank. Then immediately after the test, Master Hodder conducted a 3 hour Hapkido seminar in which many terrific techniques were covered. Being a Tae Kwon Do school we have had next to NO Hapkido exposure so having this kind of seminar was surely a thrill for all of my students and guests who were in attendence. My dojang was packed! If you get a chance to have Master Hodder come and do a seminar for you, you are in for a treat.
