Good for you for being strong minded enough to seek out something (TKD) to positively effect your life. I think given time you will find that TKD can help you see that "the glass is half full". As for concentration/meditation try to focus on the moment as you practice your moves and forms. Think of how one body part moves in relation to the others be it kicking, jumping, stretching or breathing. Also, I hope you will find some comfort in the friends you will make at your dojang. Stick with it and I truly believe it can improve the way you see the world and how we all fit in it. I am in my early forties and I think injuries are somewhat inevitable with age. Be it from a softball game or free sparring in the dojang. IMHO many MA people should incorporate additional exercise to aid the body. Weight bearing excerise has been shown to keep bones strong and religously stretching keeps joints more supple. Finally, we all should be aware that the additional stresses we put our bodies through requires good nutrition, possible vitamin suppliments and a decent nights sleep. Thanks for letting me babble.... Bob Smith The TKD Smith Family _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8. Some of the advice was really very well spoken. I am teetering on that razor thin edge of REALLY, REALLY resenting any label that begins with "Senior" or "Golden" and finally acknowledging all of the AARP Invitations to Membership. Truly, I know that not comparing yourself to others is proper and wise but, I don't have that make-up. I want to excel in most everything I do, sometimes despite my better judgment and resources. I want to take the challenge from the 25 year old and outscore him! Yes, I also jump up when scored upon and display a hearty "Come on, you can do better than that!" If it were up to me, I would establish an icon in TKD (both in power and grace) and then try to attain a similar level of competence. I may be fooling myself but, I don't see myself (even in the holistic sense) as a good model or "end product". If I was happy with that, I would now be a member of AARP, a Golden Buckeye (Ohio) or a Golden Dragon. I am, more or less, going into the future kicking and screaming (TKD pun intended). If HDK practice will give me a skill set that allows me to continue to achieve, then I am willing to practice it as hard as I have TKD. I am having second thoughts now that I know I might have to place a "groin lock" on a 350 pound bodybuilder. Eyew! I might just take the whuppin' (not from tejas but Tennessee). Hey Kat: I know I need to learn more Korean but, I have found that I kong my chins quite a lot in TKD. :-) Hey Mary in OK: Some events don't give you a way out. An understanding or acceptance of powerlessness can (and has helped me) accomplish spiritual acceptance but not complete healing. Some wounds may never heal completely. You have lost a very real part of yourself. Neither meditation nor other such temporary distractions will cure, not even the passage of time. I was wondering if it was a mass mailing, as it didn't appear personalized at all. I've received two different "nominations" receintly, both appeared to be mass mailings and impersonal, so I wondered if they were just picking up our e-mail address from forums such as this. But since Bruce is famous, that can't be the case. I only live about 30 minutes away from where it's being held. Let me know if you go Bruce, maybe I can stop by and say hi and congratulations... Much to my confusion my third gup brown belt got nominated before me, then my "order@bluewavekarate.com" email address got nominated before me....then a month later, the second degree (thats me) gets nominated. Maybe the person is using email address's from the list, or just doing alot of searching and address collecting. Who knows, in anycase, I doubt very seriously I will be in attendace :D Maybe ya'lls boy in Florida could stand in for us. At least a Korean sword. But I know from what I have read and the ones I have handled, that there is a vast difference in the European blades in weight and balance, between wellmade old swords, and even better modern copies. The modern copies are almost always heavier and less well balanced. Seems that the same is true for Japanese/Korean? swords? at least up to the moderately priced ones (thats a relative term -- to my budget their high). Yes, I have read some info on fit, and I know that sword should always fit the application and the person. At this point, the swords I have were cheaper. But using them did give me an idea of what I am looking for. I am just not sure at this point if I am confident enough to order a more expensive custom blade. Thanks again for the info Bruce. And thanks for the other offline info you provide the other day as well! How about it, anyone else want to give some info on your favorite sword? I have recently been getting these nominations in my email account I actually was nominated before Charlie. We think that they are being sent out based on our website. In my email I get notifications about the website if links are down and so on. So thats why I think that I was nominated also our other brown belt Nathan Miller was sent one the other day through my email account. I have no clue what these are but we have discarded them as junk mail. We think they are just trying to get people to attend the tournament and spend money. If you figure out more about them please keep us informed. Hello Alain: I just punched in the link again, and it is still up with the following info once you click on it. The info on the top of the page is empty; however, further down it lists the info that does not correspond with the headline of the original link. Therefore, one might conclude that I am teaching at the camp. I know errors are easy to make, and I did not go off the deep end about it. I simply want to make sure that folks know I will NOT be teaching at said camp. Nevertheless, I still wonder why the headline of a link that states that I am teaching a seminar on weapons and Ho Shin Sool points to an entirely different event???? This is my first post. I have known GM Bong Soo Han for over 30 years. I also know his BBs Mr. Friskee and Mr. Cruz. I do not recall if they are 5th or 6th degree, but I would not be surprised if they were Masters. I would not hold Master West to task for his comments about their degree(even if proven in error) since rank has a way of changing! I do not remember a Kirk - but my memory is far from perfect.
