He has positioned himself quite well in the years since the Olympics in 1988 and he is somewhat of a star in Korean TKD circles. Since he is the USTU President and currently a Vice President of WTF it seems a good possibility. have fun. Rich (politics s--k) HodderGet more from the Web. It will be very helpful when preparing my plan. Here are some replies to your questions that you asked: 1. Is this your first school? - Technically it will be my first school that I will be running on my own. I had a class that I used to teach a while ago, but disbanned it due wanting to learn more so I could teach more. So yes I guess you can say this will be my first authentic school 2. Can you start smaller if you don't borrow money? - I am wanting to start as small as possible. At this time I am trying to find a part time job to earn some money that I can use as saftey money along with any loan I may have. If I can skip the loan part and still start a school, I would be more than happy to. I am not looking to start start a 2000 sq ft dojang yet. :) 3. Are you trying to go full time immediately? - No this will be a part time school to begin with, until I can bring it up to par to compensate me enough so I can leave my real job now. 4. What are your earning goals and long range goals for the school? - I am not sure what is meant by this question. However, if I am reading it right, my goal is to bring in $24K-36K gross after expenses. I am not sure if this is a high or low goal yet. My long term is to have the school up in running and earning between $80K-$100K within 5 years. Again I don't know if this goal is too high or too low. Opinoins from more experienced people are welcomed. 5. Have you considered private sources of venture capital in lieu of a bank? (they make better silent partners, but banks are more directive). - I have not considered that. How would you recommend going about this. I really don't want to ask friends or family members. Kind of a rule I have when it comes to business. Thanks again for you advice. Jeremy __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. Can any of our WTF active > friends find out any information on this? It sounds very bogus to me. I would have my doubts. While it is likely that Dr. Kim is due to step down as head of the WTF to perhaps focus on other things, how would CHOI Jung-hwa help the WTF? Given the close ties of the WTF to the S. Korean government, how would Master Choi fit in? Given the postion of Master Choi on the ITF joining/merging with the WTF, would he even be interested (assuming it was being offered)? My wife claims to be in the "size doesn't matter" camp, but I suspect she's just being kind. Anyway...I digress! When thinking of curved blades, the traditional Japanese katana always pops into my mind, and it seems that this blade design is frequently put out there as an example of "why blades should be curved". From what little I understand (and it is little), Japanese blades were not intentionally forged as curved blades. They were actually forged as straight blades, and they become bowed (curved) as a result of the cooling process. Again, I don't know the specifics but this would make sense to me...since the thinner blade edge would tend to cool at a different rate than the thicker back edge. In essence, the blade was intended to be straight, but the traditional manufacturing method resulted in a bowed blade. My guess is that the modern makers of Japanese style blades could leverage current technology in order to make a straight blade without the bowing effect, but then it wouldn't be a "traditional design" now would it? IMHO, blade curvature will not enhance cutting to a measurable degree. Which reminds me: Stovall's Law of Fighting #85: a. Any untrained fool can hack you to pieces with a good, sharp blade. b. A trained expert can kill you with any old mop handle. Fear the man, or fear the weapon...it depends. Thx. >From rterry Wed Feb 5 12:38:04 2003 Subject: Co-existence of digest and non-digestified To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net (The_Dojang) Date: Wed, 5 Feb 2003 12:38:04 -0800 (PST) A request... On the list, this list, we have two ways a person may be subscribed. They may choose to receive each post to the list as an individual email message or they may choose to receive the posts grouped together in a digest format (i.e. digestfied). A subscriber may change how they are subscribed by going to http://the-dojang.net, logging-in, and following the directions provided. One problem with this 'freedom' is that when those that are subscribed to the list in its non-digestfied form (an individual email per post) reply to a message they may quote the entire message to which they are replying. This can be a problem for those on the digest as they see the same long message over and over again. So the request is... please quote only the portions of interest or enough so that others may easily follow the thread. In other words, please trim your post. The other problem is when those on the digest form of the list simply reply to an issue of the digest. The subject of that message then becomes something like "Re: The_Dojang digest, Vol 10 #59 - 9 msgs". Not a very useful subject line for those receiving individual emails and wishing to follow a specific thread. Subject lines like "Re: The_Dojang digest, Vol 10 #59 - 9 msgs" also don't make the Table of Contents at the head of every digest issue very useful. So the request is... please update your email's subject line to be something useful -and- remember to trim your post. Any questions? Feel free to contact me offline. Thanks. I do not believe in no touch strikes. I offer $1000 to any person who knocks me out without touching me. I am serious, and expect only serious takers. You may demonstrate your seriousness by putting up $100, which will become mine should you fail. You do not have to expose your "magical" technique either. Since you don't have to touch me - I assume you don't even have to be in the same state (greatly reduces travel costs too!) But I am open to working out the details. Before opening my school last year I looked at many different programs before deciding to go with Master Vision. Todd is easy to work with and returns calls quickly and allows your input and insite to improve the program for all users. I needed a program that could not only track students, attendence, inventory but also control contracts and payments as well as intro classes, follow ups, etc. Here ius the web site and I believe they still have a demo you can download and see if you are comfortable with the program before you buy it. Hope this helps.
