It was generally a taboo to mention the emperor's name in public. Thus he was always refered to as Song Taizu (The Great Founder of Song Dynasty), according to history, he was briefly a monk in Shaolin temple to avoid the nomadic Huns that ruled the northen China at that time. The Hawaiian print is still open, but I'm afraid you would be illegally copying the official LA Boyz uniform if you cut your uniform short. We are the only ones that get to stand out do to our bulging calves and forearms *manly grunt* While we do have the shorty gi, I have yet to see anyone use an even shorter gi. Perhaps this is still open for use. You could even just wear one of those tighty bikini bathing suit bottoms, and a sleeveless top. I think you could have a lot of success with this ultra-sexy dobok, you'd have people flocking from all around. Just a suggestion, Kent "Copying Craig Stovall" Frazier Original Message: --------------------- Message: 1 From: To: Date: Wed, 7 May 2003 08:41:44 -1000 Subject: [The_Dojang] Uniforms Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I'm thinking about having some Hawaiian print dobaks made. Maybe pants that go to about 3 inches below the knee (for tidal purposes) and 3 inches below the elbows (to show off bulging, tanned forearms). Any of you guys try to purchase or copy my uniforms, I'll do the TGT thang on yore punkin heads! --------------------- --__--__-- Message: 3 Date: Fri, 9 May 2003 08:15:41 -0500 (CDT) From: To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] =?iso-8859-1?Q?Re:_Unsolicited_Response?= Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Dear Frank: "......Over the course of the last several years, I have done some things that I am very ashamed of. Some of you may have been impacted, and some may have even been hurt....." Speaking as one who has been impacted pretty severely by some of what has gone on, your post struck me as quite a lightening bolt out of the blue. I can't say that I have not had some truely nasty thoughts about what has happened to me in the last year and who was behind it. However, you would be amazed at how far your post went towards soothing much of the anger and pain at being blind-sided by another member of the KMA community. As a counselor I don't always get a chance to know if the work that I do makes any difference at all. Its sort of an occupational condition folks in the field learn to live with. I do want you to know that YOUR action had an impact on me, that it helped with the healing, and that I truely appreciate the effort it took to go out in front of the community and express what you did. Thank you. I'm glad I'm not the only guy still interested in yabbering away about the martial arts! Thanks for the invite back Kirk, but time does not allow. I love your quotation from Chas: "A herd of martial artists gets together and a fight breaks out; quelle surprise." I think that explains why I do this and Iaido-L instead! :) Is there a searchable archive for rec.ma these days? I'm sure the technology has improved! Actually sounds cool. Let's have a trademark race! Go! I always liked Don Jacobs' gis. He's from Trinidad & Tobago and has some cool ones. You can see him at: http://www.purple-dragon.com/indexgallery.htm Although I didn't see the gis I really liked. They were kind of like hanboks but done in a Carribean print. Cool! Bruce Simms wrote a lot of good stuff, including: "Why the Korean culture is bound and determined to mimic Japanese MA when they already have quite a culture of martial Science of their own bests the heck out of me." Hmm. I would agree. The Koreans always seemed to be the intellectuals and got their butts stomped when they didn't think up cool things like the turtle ships. On the other hand, success is always envied. When the Japanese got the Olympic games, the Koreans wanted to do the same (hence, WTF TKD). When the Japanese samurai movies did really well, then the Chinese movie makers started copying them to make their kung-fu movies more popular. Success again! Of course, Kurosawa based his stuff on Ford's westerns and Jackie Chan admires Chaplin & Lloyd, so I guess the good ol' US of A is home to the greatest martial arts success of all -- the John Wayne punch! :) Oh, and Klaas, thanks for this one: "It's not a bug it's a feature!" Definitely worth a good laugh! I really love this guy! Here's some of his stuff from his website! The first line reads: "Who is he? He is black and comely." The last paragraph reads: "Who is he? He is Professor Don Jacob, Trinidad and Tobago's finest Martial Arts practitioner and therapist. He is and Author, Instructor, Teacher, Motivator, Counselor and Father. He has taught over 20 thousand students in the Martial Arts He belongs to the rich institution of Mother Purple Dragon, the Secret Order of the Oriental, and African Arts and Science. He is Martial Arts Extraordinaire and an inspiration to us all. He is the one and only Professor Don Jacob. He is happy through God almighty to have done it his way in the CREATOR'S service. Amen." And you know what? He is the real deal! Amazing! Dakin-san says "check him out!" See if you can find tapes of Wally Jay's 80th bday party - Don has some fun demos on there!
