Robert Trias trained under Tung Gee Hsing. Hsing trained with Choki Motobu. Hsing promoted Trias to 1st Dan in mid-1943. But my point was that Trias, "The Father of American Karate", taught using Japanese terms, and Chittim was tight with Trias. One is the origin of the > Roundhouse kick and the other is the origin of high kicks. I believe it was an article in JAMA, shortly after it first hit the stands... Claimed that the roundhouse kick was invented by mistake during a tournament when someone went to throw a front kick, tried to change it up and it ended in a roundhouse-ish type technique. However it came about, (low or high) it has clearly become one of the more effective offensive kicking techniques in the MAs (for street or sport application). Appleton's a little too far away and I don't really care about giving someone a hard time. I didn't like it when a certain Hawaian friend did it with you and I don't like it now. Just leave well enough alone Ray. The guy can hang himself. He don't need our help. As far as friends coming to WI, Grandmaster West is going to be in Mosinee on the 31st of May. I plan on running up there to visit maybe the night before. I can't afford to attend the seminar, but I do miss chatting with him. :) Mosinee, Wisconsin, May 31st, 2003 Mr. Dave Pryga, of the Central WI Martial Arts Institute, will host its' annual HapKiDo Seminar, featuring Master J. R. West and several of his higher ranking assistants. Along with a full day of HapKiDo, Mr. Pryga will be offering grilled brats during a GREAT lunch break. For further information, contact Mr. Pryga at (715) 693-3913, or ehccwmai@mtc.net . Anyone in the Wisconsin area up for a little fun -n- games??? :) Ray Terry rterry@idiom.com --__--__-- Message: 4 From: ChunjiDo@aol.com Date: Tue, 20 May 2003 21:12:58 EDT To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Re: korean movies Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net "Melinda, I have seen those movies you have mentioned.  By far Musa is an excellent movie.  The cinematography is great and the martial art fighting scenes were done with a lot of realism to them.  You can get the VCD or DVD at zoommovie.com.  Also I would recommend My Wife is a Gangster.  It is another Korean movie which is more of a comedy, but has some pretty good fight scenes. Jeremy" the dvd's were darned cheap on ebay. there are a lot of good ones out there. the other one i forgot to mention is "shiri". more modern day flick about a north korean assassin sent to s.korea to take care of business. the title of the "my wife is a gangster" flick kinda turned me off, but i'll check that one out. one thing i have to say about the korean movies i've seen so far is that theyre not real whippy on the happy endings...lol. thanks for the recommendation :) take care, mel Chajonshim Martial Arts Academy www.cjmaa.com 1-573-673-2769 Chajonshim Martial Arts Supply www.cjmas.com 1-877-847-4072 --__--__-- Message: 5 From: To: Date: Tue, 20 May 2003 15:13:18 -1000 Subject: [The_Dojang] 3,669 push ups in an hour Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net "3,669 push ups in an hour" Yea, but how many could he do by completely pausing between them and going slow???
