It continued to trouble me for some time because I continued to train. I was seeing a RKT for some work on my vertical and some plyometrics and told him about the injury. I was also experiencing some pain in the knee of the same leg. He said the knee pain was a result of the hamstring never fully regaining its strength. The way he fixed it was by having me run backwards and at various inclines on the treadmill. He had a special setup where I wore a harness and had a spotter so I didn't hurt myself .If you tell me what area you are in I can ask him for a referral to someone who can do the same in your area. I was skeptical of his methods but have had no pain after completing a 12 week program around 6 months ago. I have been training harder than ever lately because I am going for my 3rd Dan TKD next spring. I am much more flexible and stronger in that leg than before I injured it and I give this method full credit. Sometimes as martial artists we endure pain believing it makes us stronger but this is one case where you don't have to be plagued by a recurring injury.let me know if you want more info. I have made up technique names also and asked the tester to perform it. I do this to see what creative move they can come up with on-the-spot. Some of the moves are funny to watch....kinda like interpretive TKD..lol. -- Mark Gajdostik TNT-Martial Arts 503-789-1356 --__--__-- Message: 3 Date: Fri, 23 May 2003 16:05:52 -0500 (CDT) From: To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] =?iso-8859-1?Q?Re:_Communication_?= Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Dear Ray: ".....Of course if you ask them to be honest and cummunicate then you gotta be ready and willing to hear them out and perhaps even hear what you don't really wish to hear......" Absolutely right, Ray. The discussion lasted for about an hour and a half and I did my best to guide it around so that the individual had a chance to reinterate their point of view a number of ways and a number of times. I certainly didn't want to walk away having simply "thought" I heard something and jumped to a conclusion. Even as I write this I am not sure which is more insidious--- the actual attempt to colonize another class or school or the free-floating fear that someone, anyone, everyone is trying to do that to me. There is undoutedly something very territorial about the nature of martial art instruction as has been pointed out. I wonder what the future for the KMA will be if we all start to batten down our hatches for fear that anyone coming into "our" territory will be intending to draw us under their control. I notice people rarely talk about this issue in general, but have noticed that not a few people immediately identify "politics" as the single greatest reason not to get tied into various organizations. Would you guess that "colonization" is merely "politics" under another name? Is one mans' "colonization" another mans' "recruitment"? I study Oh Do Kwan TKD, and am wondering about the differences between Oh Do Kwan, and other styles of TKD. Are there any major differences, other than different Hyungs? Thank-you. Lucy ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ninemsn Extra Storage is now available.
