The philosophy behind Juche isn't all that bad, IMHO, especially for an American. Self-reliance is something that the US and Americans always believed in. The problem comes with what NK has done with Juche. Millions of people have died because of the implementation of the Juche Ideal. It is outright evil. The world and Korea will be a better place when the Great Leader is gone. The USTF continues to perform Juche with Ko-dang being an optional pattern. It is hard to say what the ITF(s) will do down the road. Robert Martin > Hi Todd > > I'm not an ITF member, but I consider myself a > student of the art, and of > (Major)General Choi's contribution. I purchased face masks with face guards on them and chest protectors, and she is buying another female chest protector. Next time we spar, I plan on bopping her in the head/face as much as I can as well as find out how good those chest protectors really work :-) It doesn't do her much good if I don't, and I'm more than happy to oblige... I can get her back now, because the first time we sparred when she was a white belt she dumped me on my head... I also have an advanced young girl in my class as well with whom I was working on advanced hand techniques a while back - she hesitated once and I punched her in the face - she paid more attention after that (it was an accident). Have to be careful with those though, because I'd hate for her to show up at school with a black eye and tell them "my daddy did it to me"! I might have police come looking for me! I worry every time we get back from JR West's seminars for the same reason. You should have seen us and all the bruises we had after Master Geoff Booth's seminar of using a pen as a self defense weapon! I told her that what ever she does, don't tell anyone that "my daddy caused all these bruises - used a pen" :-) Take care, Mac TangSoo! ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Philosophical and personal growth through searching for truth where you find it can be destructive, or at the least, debilitating. This may be a poor analogy but I believe this philosophy similar to the suckers that form on plants. Suckers are natural growths. They, too, represent growth in different, new areas from the same root. However, left without pruning, this growth can stunt or detract from the plant's highest and best form, as such. (okay, okay. I probably got too much sun from yardwork last weekend)....." Hats off to you for a well written post. I think what you may have heard more than anything in my post was perhaps my advocating for a particular view. What I was working to convey was the need to accept and examine alternate lines of thought. I get a little concerned when I hear someone close the door hard on a subject or person. Remember, you are communicating with someone who in the past even advocated for folks like Richard Hackworth in the hopes of getting a reasonable airing of even HIS views. I have seen a lot more growth from allowing alternate positions to have their day than what comes from cutting myself off from diversity. In the case of your position I can make room for someone who believes in an absolute Faith and has every desire to go to Heaven. I can also make room for the agnostic, the politician and the so&so who gouges me for $2 a gallon on gasoline. The question I have, is regarding my dreams of opening a school of my own. I am an Irish american, not a single bit of Korean in me, is it crazy for me to think I can open my own school in an art that I have no natural born roots in? My master is Korean, was born in Korea, lived in Korea, and travels there often. Because of this a large part of my school consits of our local Korean community- 35% or more about. Do you think I will be taken seriously being an american teaching a Korean art? As a side note, I'd appciate hearing form anyone willing to share what size thier school is and how much they make a year if they own their own Do Jang. Any responses not wished to be shared on the list can be sent to aloaf@aol.com Thanks Dan O'Boyle Blue Belt TKD --__--__-- Message: 6 From: "Dunn, Danny J GARRISON" To: "'the_dojang@martialartsresource.net'" Date: Wed, 11 Jun 2003 13:38:56 -0500 Subject: [The_Dojang] Guest Master Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Master Richards, I agree with you that I would not ask someone outside my orgs permission. I think John was asking about another Master, other than his GM who belonged to his school. John was just teaching a regular assigned class. Although I must confess I was born way up north (in Fort Worth). Can't help you on the dobok factor as mine are hapkido ones and I get them from South Korea through Master Booth. Even though I born in the 50's and the mind is slowly going:), I can remember my first tournament in 74, remember, this was before sparring gear was invented by Rhee around 78. I also took 4th at the tkd international invitational in 87 up in Fort Worth, so I am very familiar with competition in taekwondo. Sorry about the taekwondo book you mentioned, it is not going to happen. If it does not say hapkido on the cover, then I probably do not have it. My ancestors were Vikings, but that does not change the fact that I teach hapkido.:) Jere R.
