I have a herniated disc between C5 and C6 and a bulging disc between C6 and C7 (MRI and XRay). My left hand is very weak and I cant extend my fingers. The doctor said that surgery is the only option. Hello Jere: Thank you for the (early) birthday wish. Mine is on August 17. We will celebrate the event (as well as my student Lorne's birthday) at our annual challenge course training camp this weekend. I'll be sure to toast you and GM West several times:) A very happy birthday to you from your friends at NKMAA. If so, what were you doing? Ray Terry rterry@idiom.com --__--__-- Message: 5 From: "Jim McHie Jr." To: Date: Tue, 12 Aug 2003 23:32:41 -0500 Subject: [The_Dojang] Re:_Manslaughter Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I have two of Choe's books. As a mater of fact at Master Timmerman's last seminar in Chicago I was asking if he had heard of the man or had seen either book, but he said he hadn't. In one of Choe's books on Black Belt Studies, he talks about converting to Christianity and religion as having changed his life, but in between the lines you could infer that if we was a peaceful Christian now that there might have been a time when he wasn't as peaceful. I like the two books of his that I have, so it begs the question whether the books have value if the man turns out to be a skilled martial artist but a flawed human being. All I can say as to the rest, especially to Bruce since you were the first one to respond and the tone of your response, is don't judge too harshly without having heard both sides--which is exactly what it read like you were doing. It hardly needs to be said that a lot of what we do is very, very dangerous and even in the defense of ourselves any one of us could end up criminal defendants. We have all heard stories or been witnesses to wrong time, wrong place situations or one-in-a-million shots that have turned very, very tragic. One of the instructors at our school is a long-time prosecutor and I've heard many. I understand that the phrase "Choe rushed Lee with a drawn samurai sword" looks bad, and it's certainly possible, if not probable, Choe *was* in the wrong, but it couldn't have been that black and white if they couldn't get murder two. Washington's first-degree manslaughter statute is as follows: RCW 9A.32.060 Manslaughter in the first degree. (1) A person is guilty of manslaughter in the first degree when: (a) He recklessly causes the death of another person; or (b) He intentionally and unlawfully kills an unborn quick child by inflicting any injury upon the mother of such child. (2) Manslaughter in the first degree is a class A felony. No motive was given. Lee was the one who showed up at Choe's place of business to confront him. It doesn't sound like there were any direct witnesses to what was said between the two men. Did Choe know he was coming? Where did the sword come from? Did he 'rush' from twenty feet away, or two? Was there any point where Lee could have or should have withdrawn? What the hell exactly happenned? I don't mean this to be disrespectful to the man who was killed, only to point out that the original post to the digest was a request for more information, and I think it's high time to wait for more information to come in before making judgement. If an American flag is on the same staff as other flags, it should always be at the top. The gist is that other flags should not be in positions of greater prominence or honor. When flags of States, cities, or localities, or pennants of societies are flown on the same halyard with the flag of the United States, the latter should always be at the peak. When the flags are flown from adjacent staffs, the flag of the United States should be hoisted first and lowered last. No such flag or pennant may be placed above the flag of the United States or to the United States flag's right. When flags of two or more nations are displayed, they are to be flown from separate staffs of the same height. The flags should be of approximately equal size. International usage forbids the display of the flag of one nation above that of another nation in time of peace. > In our dojang we hang from walled perspective (TX, USA, Assoc. > Korea, Canadian) TX and USA at same level and slightly higher then > the rest. > Sincerely, Kat Lower Texas Raise Korea and Canadian "I think Texas is a unique and important state" - State Rep.
