I have to agree with Jeff. To put them in the same grouping is an abomination. I hold rank from WOMAF and have studied with Master Garrrison. He is a complete Hapkido man. Very knowledgeable, personable and intense. Jeff is following in his footsteps in keeping the art of Hapkido traditional and unspoiled. Jeff is just as intense in his pursuit of this. I would love to get on the mat with you J. When are you coming out my way to the land of tornados and wheat? Is their any specific reasons Bruce, why you are no fan of WOMAF? Just curious Greg >Bruce- >For you to mention James Garrison in the same sentence as a Hackworth or >Pelligrini is indeed not an apt comparison. >If you talk about making up styles, jumping "major" rank and acting like a >12-year old schoolgirl when it comes to personal attacks O.K. Does he do/teach other martial arts also? Ray Terry rterry@idiom.com --__--__-- Message: 3 Date: Wed, 13 Aug 2003 21:06:58 -0700 (PDT) From: "L. Veuleman" To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Pressure Point, Hiked Up, Jackson Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Charlie, Seriously, the average Mui Thai fighter is done for by age 22 to 25. I have seen a few Mui Thai matches won by knock out or TKO by repeatedly kicking this point. Most retired Mui Thai fighters have a rather pronounced limp, if they can still walk.... This used to be one of my favorite targets for a soft style palm strike...before I learned better from GM Timmerman's recent post. And all this time, I thought Charlie talked funny because he had his dobohk pants hiked up too high, neh? Cheers, Charles Richards Charles, Always nice to hear from the other 'charles' on the list. We arn't doing the sloppy, or rather should I say no chamber full roundhouse kick to each other, but just maybe some reverse punches and an occasional hangetsu style one nuckle strike, or front snap kick. I once did a head butt to the point while grappling with Amanda, but she didn't like it : ) . In anycase, we never really slam it like they do, so I am sure we are okay. A good comparison is like when you hit your funny bone. That point is sensitive enough you can hit with very little pressure and make your buddy laugh in pain. With friends like this..... Speaking of my hiked up dobaks, we are planning on bringing a small crew to Jackson (this is where Mast.West smiles...mmmm...prereg's.....) so ya'll will see alot more shins and forearms. Jackson get ready. as of now we have doubled last years attendance (6 definitly going) and we are hoping for around 8 or more. Its always hard to convince people that getting thrown all weekend is a good thing. For those people, I offer this advice for you that are thinking of going but not sure. First Point, to tournament people: Lets see, you spend a few hours driving to the event, probably 5-7 hours waiting to compete, (maybe not together, but total), 5 minutes total competing if you figure your hyung takes 1 minute and you fight maybe twice at two minutes each, and a few hours driving home. With jackson you spend a few hours driving, 18 hours total 'competing' which is actually LEARNING, and a few hours driving back. And if you don't know the Ding How, you should come and try it anyway. Second Point, to those on a budget: Its jackson Mississippi guys, not Hawaii or Paris. There are holiday inns, days inns, etc, and more fast food than you can shake a stick at. Come with a crew and split the costs. Third point, to those not thinking they can learn gain from other styles: You people are nuts. Everything you learn you will apply somehow to your everyday training. I promise. And even if you learn nothing (yeah right), you will go away spending a little bit of cash and meeting a whole lot of people who will help you, learn with you, and stay in touch with you just as you were always a friend. If there is one thing I have learned, dedicated black belts usually make dedicated friends. See Ya'll Soon. Charlie Veuleman ************** L.
