Some high-ranking personality in the "Old Country" wants to spread their particular brand of Martial Arts for the good of Mankind and to make a more Peaceful World. So they send "missionaries" to the New World to open schools and spread their particular brand of MA. It all sounds good, just like when I hear about another housing development in my area and I think to myself "growth is good." But now lets take a look at what happens. Just like that new housing development the KMA schools and organizations need infastructure, they need organization, they need tending-to. You can't build a housing development without water, sewage, streets, gas and so forth. Well, you can't build an organization without commitment, communication, organization, activities and so forth. What I am hearing about people finding that their certs are just so much expensive paper reminds me a lot of folks in the 50-s and 60-s who bought desert property in Arizona or swampland in Florida. The folks who sold those certs, just like the folks who sold that swampland knew EXACTLY what they were doing. Organizational leaders in the Korea pleading ignorance won't cut it for me. And now, when folks are asking for the fullfillment of those certs--- the communication, the participation in the organizations, positions of responsibility and so forth suddenly it turns out that people in the rarified atmospheres of organizational leadership are befuddled. I think that Rudy's point is well-taken. When there were these huge international events in Korea and the US just where did the authorities think all of those Black Belts came from? In closing let me also say one more thing. We in the US are not all that innocent either. There are many who bought their ranks HOPING that not too many questions would be asked and that folks wouldn't look too closely at dates and ranks and teachers and such. Lets not kid ourselves. However, now when we want the regard and respect from the organization that a higher rank would suggest we are surprised (?) that the Board of Directors back in Korea doesn't know who we are. What did people expect? If you want to get your certs and rank without too much notice, it should come as no surprise that people in places of importance have not noticed you. FWIW. I just think it's not quite amplified as much given the style stratification and relative number of practitioners etc... Of the staff that is there no one can read English fully. Plus, there aren't any bookstores that sell English-language publications (much less periodicals) in the area. President Myung also has not been to the U.S., so his exposure to American publications would have to come from someone who brought them to his attention -- and few Americans travel to Yong-In. He reads Korean publications and receives European ones when students bring them in from abroad, but he has so much going on with the administration/instructing of the federation that actively seeking out every foreign or Korean publication in existence probably isn't high on his list of priorities. One of the interested parties may want to contact the DKA via their website at http://kidohae.co.kr/eng/, or other means, to see if you get the same answer we have seen recently confirmed(?). One thing that I wonder... if perhaps there weren't two types of Kido HKD Dan certification. (1) registered in the DKA and therefore the Korean gov thru the Ministry of Culture and Sport and (2) registered in the WKF in their former association with the DKA, but never accepted by the Ministry of C & S. ??? Just wondering out loud. Anyone know what the standard price is? Even $2500 would have been too much for Gm Ji to pay. Given the final article was apparently not cleared thru him, it was probably paid by the person with the most to gain from that article...
