For what its worth I'll give it to you anyway. I do not believe there is any other sport whose international governing body is controlled in this manner and I don't think TKD should be governed this way either. The fact is that the KKW is a quasi department of the ROK government(much as the ITF was controlled and parts still are by the North). IMHO, the membership should sever those ties and move the federation HQ out of Korea and dump much of the current leadship. The sport will be better off. Ok -- ready for the outrage and flames. I think they are pretty good now. Schools are able to add addtional charges to cover costs, etc. but have to get the minimum dan fees. 10th gup to 8th gup $35.00 8th to 7th $35.00 7th to 6th $40.00 6th to 5th $40.00 5th to 4th $50.00 4th to 3rd $50.00 3rd to 2nd $60.00 2nd to 1st gup $60.00 1st gup to 1st dan $150.00 1st to 2nd $200.00 2nd to 3rd $250.00 3rd to 4th $300.00 4th to 5th $350.00 5th to 6th $400.00 7th Dan (Master) free 8th Dan free 9th Dan free In addition, if there are more than one family member testing for black belt (any rank) the highest rank pays full price and everyone else is no charge. Our school adds $75.00 to cover belts, etc. Robert Martin --__--__-- Message: 4 From: "Greenbrier Tae Kwon Do Academy" To: "Dojang Digest" Date: Wed, 3 Sep 2003 23:26:48 -0400 Subject: [The_Dojang] RE: Philosophy Lesson Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net That is the best philosophy lesson I've heard in a long time. If the IOC wants to require a KKW for Taekwondo competition in the Olympics, it can do so. It is the international governing body for the Olympics. If the USTU wants to require a KKW for anything, it cannot do so; since this violates our Sports Act. If you want to go to the Olympics and compete in Taekwondo, you'd better get a KKW certification before you step on the mat.
