She was the sweetest woman off the mat, and I know from personal experience the meanest one on the mat (really knew how to put the hurt on). I know she was a great source of inspiration for my daughter and a role model for her. She will be very missed. >From myself, Mindy, Laura & Elaina along with all my students we send our love and condolences to Master West and his family. I remember her warm hospitality and the extra time she took to share with me some ideas on diabetes management for my daughter. It is my gain that I had the opportunity to spend some time with her. Your students have lost a talented and caring instructor and I know they will miss her greatly as well. My warmest thoughts to you and yours in this difficult time, Sharon --__--__-- Message: 4 From: "Jason E. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I would like to express our sincerest condolences on behalf of myself, my family and my students for GM West and the West Family. Although we didn't know Mrs. West well, it was clear from the first day we landed in Mississippi how much of an impact she has had on the community and the students at the event. GM West and his family will be in our thoughts and prayers. Regards, Jason E. Master Renee West was one of the finest people to ever walk this earth. A great wife and mother. A great friend. A great teacher. She is in our hearts and in our prayers. Master Renee West was more to me than my teachers wife, she was a very dear friend. She was also selfless leader. When I first opened the Hapkido Self Defense Center, I asked her for advice on teaching children hapkido as she was one the greatest in this field. She spent several days photocopying and collating information into a book, a collection of work that was the best on the subject of teaching children. She had it bound into a book about 1 inch thick. She went through all that work, just to help me out with my dojang. But before she presented her collection of work to me, she spent all day coaching me on the subject. Even after everyone in the seminar went out to dinner at Woods Family Restaurant, she stay with me in the office till almost midnight making sure I had all the information I could digest in what turned out to be an 8 hour coaching class. If she ever did a technique that I had not seen before, she would immediately take the time to ensure that I had a complete grasp of the motion. In fact, the final technique I did at the end of my demonstration Saturday was taught to me by her. When I first started teaching at the semi-annual hapkido workshops in Jackson, she would bring a fruit tray and a supply of beverages to the conference room for the instructors. These are just a few examples of the way Master Renee West treated others. Going out of her way to help anyone who simply asked. If you are interested in sending flowers or doing something to remember her, please make a contribution in her name to the diabetes foundation of your choice. The American Diabetes Association can be found online at http://www.diabetes.org/homepage.jsp. Master West, my dear friend and teacher, we can only imagine what you are going through and we all share her loss with you. But please know that Renee will be missed by more people than one life could possibly hope to touch. Those of us that knew her are proud of her accomplishments in this life. Master Renee West: A true warrior! She is in our hearts and in our prayers. The warriors are dedicated to protecting the peacemakers. The peacemakers are dedicated to eliminating the need for warriors. Both professions are honorable. Jere R.
