As a spouse and father, I can not imagine the deepness of your loss. It is a testament to your dear spouse's memory that so many thought so well of her. She will be missed. May she live in your memories and love and the lives of each student and person she touched. Respectfully. I checked into it more. What I found out was our head instructor was not actually promoting these children to 1st Dan, but to 1st Poom. They still got black belts (which I am not crazy about), but were NOT presented with Dan certificates but Poom certificates until they turn 15. I understand what he is doing, it's marketing while staying somewhat "in the lines" with the rules applying to the criteria of awarding Dan grades to students. In addition to Dr. Kimm, we have great instructors including Master Steve Kincade, Chief Master's Donald Kimm and Jamie Serio, and Master Bob Banham to name just a few. The next seminar is Nov. 8-9 but I don't have any details about what areas will taught but it's always been well worth my time and money, I always come away with something I can use......" Thanks for echoing my thoughts. There is also one issue that never seems to get dealt with up front but I would like to comment on. The issue seems to deal with the origins of the HAN MU DO curriculum. In such cases, detractors of the HAN MU DO are fond of pointing out how the curriculum seems to be gathered together from a number of sources after the fashion of so many individuals who have sought to exploit the commecial value of KMA. I just wanted to mention that the stature of the Dr. Kimm goes quite some way in attesting to the authenticity of such a venture. We are not, after all talking about some wannabee who bounced from organization to organization to attain his elevated belt rank, or a former student who managed to make 3rd Guep in five or six disparate arts. I have come to have a deep and abiding respect for Dr. Kimm for the wise and thoughtful manner in which he has studied and organized material regarding the KMA and look forward to spending more time with him as God provides. I don't think that a Black-Belt is something you decide to be as much as it is something that you become. A 3 yo is NOT capable of expounding on the virtues you list or having a cognizant ability to articulate them to others. You mention time and dedication. Is 3 years enough "time". If it isn't, then these "toddlers" fail your own definition. I think it's moderately O.K. to expound on the Oprah definition of children (i.e. people are just little people with less expeiences). Their cognitive and physical abilities are far different than an adults, both empirical and scientific evidence says so. Not everyone can be one it takes a special somone to be a Sabum-Nim. Not just because "I'm a Black Belt" I'm going to be an instructor. An Instructor is a teacher, a mentor,a coach and someone we all look(ed) up to, to this day everybody still looks up to their instructor, for advise, councel, and a friend. I have many students throughout the USA that (even they may be in a different art) still call me and ask for advise. I started teaching in my backyard back in 1976 as a green belt just to earn money to pay for my classes and have been instructing ever since. I agree with everyone on the Digest as far as this 3 1/2 year old Black Belt he/she dosn't have the maturity to even understand what a Black Belt is let alone be a " Yoo-Dan-Ja" Tae Kwon-Do has been a part of my life for 29 years and it will continue so for the rest of my life. My whole life dedicated to the way and I'm here to tell you that the way has always been there for me. I remember one time I was going through a divorse and my son's Kwan-Jang let me "live" in the Do-Jang a few months later he, (the Kwan-Jang) was too living in the Do-Jang he too was getting divorsed. We supported each other. Any way I need to stop I could go on forever I just love Tae Kwon-Do and I'm sure that all of you (my family in the arts) can say it to. Pil-Sung Tae Kwon Manuel K. I am a second poom in Taekwondo. I personally dont think me having my belt, has anything to do with my skill. I could wear an 8th poom or a white belt and still think nothing of it, the belt just comes with uniform. But as you get higher in level, you learn to appreciate your belt. but it doesn't change your skill But when it comes to young children who have aquired a black belt? thats just rediculous. I have been in TKD for 10 years, it took me 7 to achieve my black belt. But When I'm 16 > next year. I have to take another black belt test for my 2nd Dan. I totally agree with this. Young children cant appreciate the true meaning of black belt, nor do they have the proper focus to finish a pattern. We're talking 9 patterns here? ya right. Just thought i'd voice my opinion Keith   ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Add photos to your messages with MSN 8.
