I couldn't agree with you more. It took me every bit of 7 years to make cho-dan and I'm still growing strong. I think that the fastest Black Belt I ever gave out was to my step-son Omar. He trained in Colombia SA for several years before moving to the U. S. when I meet his mother I started training him he did a stent in the Navy and has recently been promoted to I Degree Black Belt. Total time under me maybe 2 1/2 years I'd say around 8 years as a "free stylist" if you still want to call it that. He's trained in KARATE, Tae Kwon-Do, also Taekwondo ( I spelled it both ways to denote ITF and WTF). My two own sons Manuel & Mario are both II Degrees. I'm proud of all three of my sons. I hope they continue and some day pass me in rank. Just a proud father. But don't think that since they are my sons that I've cut corners or something like that. My three sons get upset at me because I'm too "soft" with our students now en days so they say. I hope that my sons will carry on with what I've started and make it bigger tae Kwon-Do needs to be in everyone's vocabulary. Again I applaude you Mr. Richards. I make my own training weapons and want to attempt to wrap the handle of my new Bokken. Does anyone out there know where I can find this information. --- Shawn Ritchie --- skjsa@earthlink.net --- EarthLink: It's your Internet. --__--__-- Message: 3 Date: Mon, 29 Sep 2003 18:57:55 -0700 (PDT) From: "L. Sometimes when I send a post out at 3 am i wonder if I did any good getting my idea across. Adding KYU/GUP or Dan levels to your curriculum by the dozens can't be a good thing. The people I was posting about have from what I can tell 14 gup levels with all kinda tapes (4 to be exact), and three levels for each black belt. The worst thing is seeing a stiff belt being removed and replaced by the next highest belt at the bymonthly testings. It isn't wholy their fault, they are just following their system requirements to be a part of that franchise of TaeKwonDo (isn't that horrible that franchise and TKD are used in the same sentence). Can schools like these do whatever they want time and rank wise? Or must they follow the preset ranks and guidelines? I Know their tournaments are open only to members of the franchise, which makes me think they must. Charlie V ************** L.
