Yours is a dilemma and it is easy to solve ! The solution is (I am not Shure if I understood correctly but I believe that you just plain left your teacher) for you to go back to your teacher and this is not possible Why ? and if not for you to make it public, no problem. Then, if not to go back to your teacher’s school then make a group of your own !!! Take care and be well HAP Ramon Navarro HapKiDo SabomNim Song Moo HapKiDo International Panama City Panama 7. During the years-I trained work under emotional stress due to feelings that I had for my instructor. My instructor was aware of this and encouraged me to keep training. He would always tell me to meditate when I was troubled. He always continued to push me to come to class. I suspect that he does cares for me more than he is suppose too but never acted on it or he denied having feelings for me. My instructor is angry with me b/c I want to go to someone else to continue my training. My instructor just got married and may possibly on his way to becoming a father. I quit going to his school because I could not handle the stress. He says I can control my emotions. Since I have quit-I tried to find another instructor whose teaching methods are similar to my master's teaching method. But, the instructor is not as skilled and cannot take me any further than 1st degree black belt. Plus, there would be a conflict between the new instructor and old instructor since they both know each other. I decided not to go to the new instructor. Now, I find myself thinking about martial arts and missing it more than ever. I find myself making up workout schedules to improve my skill. Each day that I do not train I lose my flexiblity, skill and stamina. I am not motivate to work out anymore to improve my skill. I am like an orphan ...lost with no school to train in and no master to guide me. I have checked into other schools in the area, but they have American Karate schools, tournaments schools etc. These other schools do not appeal to me at all. I want to pick up where I left off-in a school that enforces the tenets of TKD, meditation, and teaches that tkd is priceless. There is anther instructor in the area, but I have heard that he is about taking the student's money. Plus, I have seen is students. They are not good. They have no heart, no desire -no deteriminaton. Should I sell my self short and go to this instructor? My old master thinks I am very good and have the potential to become a master one day. He is very sad that I have left his school. This hurts him b/c he has put his heart into my training. What does a student do when she/he is lost? I now understand that a student cannot survive without his/her master. It is hard to find a master who will trust you enough to pass his/her knowledge down to the student. _____________________________________________________________ Get a web-based email for life now ---> http://mail.hapkidokr.org --__--__-- Message: 3 From: DITTER66@aol.com Date: Thu, 9 Oct 2003 23:49:21 EDT To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Grand Master Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Please define Grand Master for me? Humm.... During the big seminar down in Mississippi last month I had a chance to talk to Dr. He-young Kimm at length about several matters, one being the reason Gm Ji spent a year in jail. I had heard it was for one of two reasons (1) after President Park was killed all those involved with his protection were jailed, or (2) after an earlier attempt on President Park's life, in which Mrs. Park was killed, some of the staff were jailed. So I asked Dr. Kimm, "which was it?". His reply was, "Neither!". He went on to explain in GREAT length the complete details of the political matter with which Gm Ji spent a year in jail, complete that sentence, was released and then moved to Germany. Later he moved from Germany to the US. In short, the matter was related to a charitable contribition from a Korean businessman to a Hapkido organization that was not declared on the proper tax form. As Dr. Kimm expressed it, those in power after President Park's death were upset that Gm Ji had not used his influence as much as he could have when he was an instructor to the Blue House security. Thus when there was a chance to "remind" him of this, the opportunity was taken and he was sentenced to a year in jail over the matter of the contribution. Now you know the true story, not the complete fabrication from yet another chubby wannabe. Ray P.S. Contact Dr. Kimm for the complete details, if you question this. ===================================================================== The following announcement has been received by Chung Tong Yudo and the International Yudo Federation. It is forwarded as a service to members, friends, and associates of US Yudo. Chung Tong Yudo is a member kwon of the Korea Hapkido Federation. Grandmaster Connolly, Founding Grandmaster of Chung Tong Yudo, and A 9th Dan of the Korea Hapkido Federation, will be present for this Seminar, as will all KHF Grandmasters living in the United States out of respect for Grandmaster Oh Se-Lim. It is a little known historical fact, outside the Republic of Korea, that after the assassination of President Park, Ji Han Jae then President of the Korea Hapkido Association, was jailed pending investigation into his Possible involvement in that affair. With the apparent involvement of some of his Hapkido associates, he escaped jail and fled to the United States. Fearing the organized involvement of Hapkido in anti-government affairs, the new President considered an order dissolving all Hapkido organizations. Only the appointment of Grandmaster Oh Se-Lim as the President of a re-named Korea Hapkido Federation saved the art. He remains the only President the KHF has ever had, a living legend of the Korean military arts. --__--__-- Message: 6 From: "michael tomlinson" To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Fri, 10 Oct 2003 12:35:35 +0000 Subject: [The_Dojang] master of nothing Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Master West writes: Mike T. said "Michael Tomlinson, master of nothing" Mike: That sounds vaguely familiar.....good thought..........J. It is refreshing to work out with real Masters that don't consider themselves Masters! That really puts things in perspective. I had fun on the mat and came away with numerous variations to some of the techniques I do,, it was also a pleasure to see some Hapkido people that love to choke other people as much as me and my guys do!! Again, I enjoyed the training in Tampa with J.R. and his crew and I also recommend the videos that J.R. has, I bought one and one of my students bought one and I am going to get the rest of them also. If you can't train unless you have an > audiance, this, too, will give you something to think about. This is quite a concept. Granted, training apart from your teacher is a part of martial arts growth. (Ie: If you're only training occurs in class, you are short sheeting yourself). Yet, without a teachers guidance: Who corrects those small (or large) problems with movement? Who gives encouragement when the technique is correct? Who supplies new material? Who explains old material in a new way? etc etc ad infinitum Now, keeping busy between teachers is one thing. Far better to train solo than not at all, but this martial artist will be stuck in a deep rut if a teacher never appears. It's much more, at least to myself, than just "nice" to have a teacher; It's imperative. Of course I may not fall into the "quality" martial artist category. My Masters have taught me quality Tae Kwon Do, yet as I practice it, it seems more like "slop-bucket" Tae Kwon Do. Not picking on you, Bruce, I just don't think you really mean what you say in the first sentence of this paragraph. New comers reading this might interpret what you say as a good cause to dump their teachers(and their fees), and embark on a video learning experience. And I am quite certain you are not a believer in learning a curriculum in that manner. Of course, this is only my opinion, subject to revision, correction, or outright deletion. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net G'Day all! I am a female Hapkido person who trains and lives in Sydney - Australia. I am in my 8th year in my Hapkido training. Received my 3rd Dan only a few months ago and enjoying a whole new set of techniques on my new belt and the wonderful variations to all the color belt syllabus techniques which I have learned prior to black belt. It has been a uninterrupted wonderful journey so far, never stopped training apart from occasional injury here and there. I am hoping to train for many many years to come. I have not been exposed to other martial arts styles in the form of serious and regular training and I am not looking at doing it at this point either. There is just still so much to learn in Hapkido that it will keep me very busy in the foreseen future, at least the way I see it :) I do, however, plan to have a look at weapons training more seriously and maybe pick up and learn Korean sword system. In our dojang and organization I teach children, although I have just recently retired from being the main instructor for the little ones (5-8) and passed the program on to a fellow instructor, another 3rd Dan. I teach youth and adults, beginners and up. Teaching has slowed down my training a bit but I am trying to make sure I get some good quality training, even if it is not as much as 5+ days a week in the past My instructor is Master Booth and I feel extremely fortunate to have started my Hapkido journey under his watchful eye yet I feel even more fortunate that I am able to continue to train and teach with him as my guide and leader. To this day, I have remained a bit more quiet in the ways of communicating with and reaching out to correspond with fellow martial artists, but I think it is time that I come out of the coccoon and meet and greet others who are enjoying their own martial arts journeys at least as much as I do. Maybe one day our paths cross on a mat somewhere, until then the virtual mats (aka dojang digest) will have to do :) Looking forward to be at the receiving the great knowledge and wisdom shared around here. In some there is one and only one Grandmaster, the head of that system. In others it is your instructor's instructor, or you Master's Master, like your father's father is your grandfather. In other systems it is rank based, i.e. once you hit 8th Dan (or 9th or 10th Dan) you are a Grandmaster. In other systems that title is not used at all.
