About a week before the seminar, this was sent to a large group of people: "Every lower grade and all Black Belts who attend this seminar will be checked out for promotion. All promotions are made only with the concurrence of the sensei (teacher) concerned." I know that several people decided not to go based on this alone. I also know O'Sensei Porter promoted a fellow taekwondo practitioner to 4th dahn without examination. O'Sensei Porter seems to have a truly stellar history but it appears to have been tarnished as of recent. Very nearly all of Africa took part in the Games here in Nigeria and at the end, Nigeria placed 1st, Egypt 2nd, South Africa 3rd and Algeria 4th. Taekwondo: For long now, Egypt has dominated African TKD and are yet to relent. Medal details of all weights will be brought to you soon. YeeDan Tolu. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Thanks for filling in many of the holes. The entire suject of purchasing a sword--- Japanese, Korean, or Chinese--- is really a huge subject area. I also liked the way you didn't pull any punches about the cost. Lets face it: you truely get what you pay for, but where practice entails whipping a 30" razor around in mixed company I suggest getting the best you can afford. I also think that what you did as far as purchasing and mounting furniture unique to your sword is an important part of making the item and the art your own. Agreed. He is a real legend in Judo circles. Watch his Judo tapes or work with him on the mat and one will quickly see just how talented he is... in Judo. I based my previous statement only on the articles he has published in the pages of TKD Times. They are filled with errors, esp in the area of KMA history. Of course, that could be the result of editorial changes made by the TKDT staff.?.?. Started teaching swim lessons to toddlers before I was 10 and one thing has never changed. It has to be fun! Change it up from time to time, but keep the discipline so they know it is expected. Be fun not funny. Sometimes kids need to be reminded the difference (some adults too). I remind my students in both my MA teachings and Phys Ed. that when you are "silly" there is a big chance that some one can get hurt. For more specific training techniques I use with kids feel free to contact me off DD. bmac2@ev1.net Good Luck! There are so many programs already in place with a lot of great TKD people in the USTU. We only need to fix a few things on the top shelf to continue to exsist, get re-certified and grow. The next several months will decide the future of the USTU. Sang Lee will do anything he can to stay in power even if he's the only person left in the USTU. He wants to become president of the WTF which he cannot do unless he's President of a National orgization. He also does not want to lose face in the international TKD community. I'd say it's a little late for that but believe me, he will not step down voluntarily. Let's see what happens in Dallas. As far a the US Open, it's still an important tournament no matter what is going on with the USTU. It's one of the few tournaments where US players can compete on an international level without being on the National Team and without traveling out of the country. The death blow will start to show in January when the schools, competitors and non-competitor members don't renew their USTU membership @ 30,000 strong. The USTU funds will dry up unless there is a new leadership group in place. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! I thought it was a foregone conclusion that these two hyung represented the highest point of TSD hyung practice. Wouldn't it follow that they would be withheld from all but the most serior practitioners? <> Bruce, Master Lee would be the best reference on when the Chil Sungs and Yuk Rho are introduced in SBD cirricula. I have the first three on tape and they are being performed by a 4th dan. I believe they are Black Belt material, but not limited to Kodanja. I have no idea when the Yuk Rho are introduced, but also gathered it was part of BB training and not kodanja only. The two highest forms I think you are refering to are So Rim Jang Kwon - Often listed as required for 7th Dan, and Tae Kyuk Kwan - Often listed as required for 8th Dan That is how Shin, Jae Chul lists it in the WTSDA cirricula, so it is possible that he knows these two forms. However, he is junior in dan bon to Jae Jhoon Kim, and Master Mac (received his 5th Dan from KJN Kim) doesn't know anyone who knows these two forms. I could list about a dozen people who are reported to be high enough in rank to know it, but that list includes KJN Hwang, H.C. and KJN Kim, Jae Jhoon, so if those two folks don't know it, and/or aren't teaching it to their 6th dan students, then it's pretty safe to say it never existed or passed with KJN Hwang, Kee Just for my own opinion, the highest forms in the practice of Tang Soo Do would be Jion and OhSipSaBo (generally required for 6th Dan). The highest forms in the practice of MDK SBD would be Hwa Sun, So Rim Jang Kwon and Tae Kyuk Kwan. Almost makes me wonder if Hwa Sun was introduced to replace SRJK and TKK...hmmm... But given the long history of problems in the USTU, most w/o any resolution, the honorable thing for him to do is to step down and let someone else take the USTU to the next level. IMHO.
