Absolutely, 100% correct!! And look at Taekwondo, for an excellent example! For years people suspected and hinted at the truth only to be told by various sources that they simply did not know what they were talking about. Finally, individuals pieced together the TKD history for what it was IN SPITE of the TKD leadership. And, have you noticed? TKD is none the worse for the truth being revealed. People still train in TKD heartily whether---or not--- it goes back to warriors and places of long ago. What purpose did all the made-up stories and multiple organizations serve? I have no idea why it is so necessary for members of the Hapkido community to play fast and loose with the truth and the facts. Of itself, the Hapkido arts are extraordinary and do not need any special embellishment. Nor do you see anything similar in such activities like western boxing where practitioners stand and fall on the basis of their skill alone. For myself, I could give a happy G-D about rank and certification and lineages, but if we ARE to do such things (and it does seem to be the will our present generation), why can't we do it well and correctly? Why not show the next generation coming up that if one is to employ these bits, it can be done well and with honor instead of using misrepresentation and deceit? Are we THAT disposed towards laziness and fantasy that we make high art of cutting corners and lying? It really makes me scratch my head. Can you tell me when is the baby to be born ? Do you guys already know what it will be ? Do you have a Korean wife ? Alain, if you have ever the need to translate anything in spanish I am willing to help you with it friendly ways – no cost but to communicate with me about it ! I have been trying to learn Korean ever since I started TangSooDo back in mid ’70, before I started HapKiDo. I have not been able to learn much but I can read in Hangul but I really do not know the language at the most for martial art, ok ! Well take care you both and about HapKiDo it is weird that people I know teach respect but do not give it ! To bad the world is getting like that but for me it is ok since I will not allow it to affect me and I will do my best to teach the correct principles to my students. Respect, Loyalty, Courtesy, Sincerity, Honesty and their meanings for me are : Respect is to like your self enough not to be untruthful. Loyalty is to be honest and real to your self and back up the person or group that is the one that stands behind you as long as they do the same. Sincerity is to be truthful to yourself and the rest of the people that are around you. Honesty is to always say the truth even if it will allow others see your errors and face them is to have Respect. Sorry for extending without you asking, take care and yours in HapKiDo and in training. HAP Ramon Navarro HapKiDo SabomNim Song Moo HapKiDo Panama City Panama 7. It was not posted to insult or insinuate I'm better than others. So I'm glad you took it the way it was meant, and thank you very much for the well wishes for our soon to arrive daughter. (March 2004) As for Spanish, I'm having a heck of a time with Korean, I don't know how I'd fit another in. I really respect and admire people like you that do speak multiple languages. Date: Tue, 11 Nov 2003 13:52:36 +1100 From: "Bernard Maginnity" To: Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Hi David There are a number of Korean styles which incorporate weapons as well as hand-to-hand. Some to look at might include Han Mu Do and Hapkido. If you are interested, Master Booth, who is based in Sydney Australia does a 'live-in' training course a couple of times per year and has also just released his new DVD series which includes Basic Cane and Basic Dan Bong (short stick), as well as Advanced Dan Bong which shows his unique 'modified' Dan Bong. It is well worth the look. Check out some info at: http://hapkido.netro.com.au/mpegs/iha.wmv or drop me a line if you have any questions. Kind regards Bernie Maginnity From: David Ozanne [mailto:tkdwarrior@optusnet.com.au] I was wondering if there any korean martial arts similar to TKD where the practitioner, as well as doing hand-to-hand elements, also uses weapons.
