You can have a look at the picture and explanation in the merchandise section of the website: http://hapkido.netro.com.au/ You can then click on the ORDER HERE button and then just inquire about it if you like. We have a curriculum that goes with our dan bong and it is also on video and dvd. Hope this helps. I did some surfing trying to find something affordable and wound up going to Home Depot (not online). I got myself a hunk of closet rod (1.25" diam), trimmed it to length, sanded it down and gave it few coats of tung oil. It looks great but I'm sure it won't hold up too well to any real contact because it not very hard. For now I am doing this on my own. I'll make another one out of ash or maple later when I get someone to teach me more. Also Turtle Press has some videos on different Bong arts and they sell some sticks too. I was talking about sparring, Jye Ray Terry wrote: Rubber knives are not recommended. They will teach you bad habits. Use wooden or dull metal training knives, not rubber or even hard rubber knives. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net How many of you practice with a live blade when doing knife defense (at least some of the time)? I'm taught that if you won't do your technique with a live blade, then you shouldn't teach it to someone else. I haven't actually done any live as I am just beginning (it's Dan Kum Sool in our class), and I can't say I'm looking forward to the day when the sheath comes off...but I know it will eventually. Marc attacks a hanging side of beef with a knife in his "Surviving a Street Knife Fight" video and puts some deep gashes in that beef. I would not want to be on the receiving end of one of his knife strikes......" The reason I recommended a smaller piece of meat is that a side of beef is self-stablizing. This is to say that it just hangs there and its own inertia serves to stablize it for whatever slash or thrust a person cares to use. My point was that even a sizeable person can roll, twist, wiggle and otherwise deflect an attack. In fact, its a little known fact that the Koreans used "paper"--- padded cardboard--- armor at one time as it became apparent that unless a person knew something about actually using a weapon one didn't need a lot of clanky steel plate to ward off blows. The same is true for the woven bamboo armor characteristic of the Japanese samurai. Now if you can pin that guy to a spot for a second the cutting and skewering becomes significantly easier. Its the same dynamic as one finds when breaking a board on a string and one that is held in place by a person. FWIW.
