Can you please direct me to a source for this definition. I have most often heard it defined as this site defines it: http://www.24fightingchickens.com/kata/bassaidai.html Sincerely, Bobby Whittemore Richmond, Virginia, USA George Peters wrote: >(Bassai or Pal Che mean "collection of the best") __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? This is a form extrapolated by Dr. Kimm from the MYDBTJ, and is primarily practiced as a one person form, but after about the 23rd movement becomes a 2 person form. It has a couple of low spinning heel kicks (which the opponent jumps), and there is one segment where the partners lock arms back to back, and one flips the other onto his feet. This form was published in its entirety several years ago in TKD Times. Although most address him personally as Dr. Kimm, when speaking of him to others we generally refer to him as Doju-nim, and the shoulder patch he wears reads founder in English, and Doju in Korean. Is a TV or a car or bicycle really worth a persons life, no matter how low or degenerate that person may be at the moment? If you do, then you have chosen to deny that person a chance to lift himself up, or seek enlightenment, to better himself.< I would never take a life to get a TV, or to get a TV back (when you kill him, he will probably drop and break it anyway). but your question misses THE BASIC POINT. Most importantly, I care enough about others that I would never take a TV. So, Question: Does taking the life of someone who cares SO LITTLE about others seem soooo wrong? Answer: Not to me. Some of us are already enlightened, and don't steal. IMHO Imminent Death encourages enlightenment, and if a thief dies in an enlightened state, then have we not performed them a service? (Did I get the kwan right?) Do any of the CMK folks out there still practice/teach these forms? >> Yes, to both questions. The kwan that derive their martial legacy from GM Yoon, Byung-In (Chang Moo Kwan) all practiced 2-man Northern Chinese Kempo (kwonbop/chuan-fa) hyung at one time. Dojusan Dan Kwon Chang Kwon Pal Ki Kwon In the States there are very few dojang that still teach these hyung. We are very spread out and are not under any one leadership. Most align ourselves with either the Chang Moo Kwan, the Kang Duk Won, or the Hung Moo Kwan. I think Master Kim Soo, in the South and Master Anderson, in the North central states have two of the largest of these organizations at this time. Besides the 2-man sets we also practice several 1-man Northern Chinese Kempo (kwonbop/chuan-fa) hyung. Bo Hsei Kwon & Daejo Kwon, just to name two. One additional note: we are also the only dojang that don't derive our Okinawan based hyung from Funakoshi's Shotokan (16 forms - Itosu lineage). Ours originate with Toyama Kanken's Shudokan (over 30 forms - Higashionna lineage). Learn the first side as a 1st Dan the second side as a 2nd Dan. As far as I know though nobody else does the form. Its really cool to see to people who have worked together with the form perform it.
