Kim is suspected of receiving at least 130 million won ($110,000) in bribes in 2001 from a now-detained businessman in return for pulling strings to gain him membership on the Korea Olympic Committee. Kim, also a national legislator, served as chairman of the KOC at the time. "If not next week, it won't take very long before we summon him," said an investigator Saturday, meaning the subpoena against the Korean sports mogul should come this month. Kim found himself embroiled in other corruption charges as prosecutors have been checking to see whether more than $1 million in cash found in his personal safe was given to him as bribes. Prosecutors said they suspect Kim received 400 million won ($338,000) in bribes from another businessman, Kim Hyun-woo, who became a KOC member in the same year, via a what they think was similar deal. Prosecutors said they were also investigating to find out whether the IOC member misappropriated portions of IOC grants given to promote the Korean martial art taekwondo, which became a formal Olympic sport at the Sydney summer games in 2000. The prosecution said it would not lift the travel ban slapped on the IOC vice president when Kim requests its temporary suspension so he can attend international conferences. Nonetheless, the prosecution dismissed the rumor that family members of Kim Un-yong are under investigation. "Though we are searching the bank account records of Kim's relatives, it does not necessarily mean we intend to uncover irregularities," the investigator said yesterday. The IOC member's son, Jung-hoon, became the subject of an investigation last year when the prosecution uncovered funds worth more than 1 billion won ($830,000) in Jung-hoon's accounts wired from a KOC executive director. The junior Kim was arrested over U.S. immigration charges in Bulgaria in May last year but was released last week there as the U.S. authorities failed to secure enough evidence to request his repatriation. The senior Kim denied the charges, but received a serious reprimand from the IOC. khjack@heraldm.com 2003.12.22 --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "JR Hilland" To: Date: Tue, 23 Dec 2003 09:53:49 -0500 Subject: [The_Dojang] Mary Sue...last thing Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net >Oh, how I wish I had made him a Billy Bob to begin with...a 23-year-old Billy Bob. >Not to worry. I recently met Mary Sue at the grocery story while wearing my hapkido shirt (at least she recognized the Hangul). She introduced herself as the 'weapons expert' at the local taekwondo dojang and had just learned the 'hapkido thumb technique' and was excited that she was now also an 'expert' in hapkido. I just shook my head and said, if your happy, then I am happy... :) --__--__-- Message: 3 From: Johnjfitzg@aol.com Date: Tue, 23 Dec 2003 11:24:53 EST To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Mary Sue...last thing Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net " Oh, how I wish I had made him a Billy Bob to begin with...a 23-year-old Billy Bob.
