Mark Barlow, of Gulf Coast Martial arts and Akayama Ryu Jujutsu, hosts the event every January. This year, there was a great Korean arts Influence. Three instructors from the Shinsei system taught, as well as Marlin Sims and William Page of Kuk Sool. Aikido was also represented by a couple of instructors, Including Van Bushnell. Judo was represented by Dr. Chris Dewey, from Starkville Martial Arts Academy (Chris also holds rand in Hapkido and Tae Kwon Do). It was a great event, and I look forward to next year. Mark Barlow does a great Job of bring Master instructors from various arts together on common ground. Next year there will be the addition of a Kids camp in January. Its one worth attending. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Tolulope" To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] More on Cross training Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Personally, I see nothing wrong in moving around. I even encourage it. Taekwondo as I learned it does not give 'everything' Martial Arts should so I tell my students to do some Judo to even up on the close-quarters side to self defence. As to training TKD outside my dojang, that is something I cannot control. There must be a reason why the student feels he needs to 'view the outside', which could include "Is my Saboenim really worth his salt?". If a student who I started off in the Art goes out to train elsewhere and returns, it tallies that could be doing OK. But if he/she doesn't return, perhaps I improve on my teacher-student relationship. The question of the student being generally silly; I try to take time to know details of applicants before accepting them into my dojang (I'm in a University environment). But really, I think if a student attains Chodan or 6th belt in fact, he/she can go out to get a feel of other teachers+ students. Training/sparring with the same people over&over could be boring... . Looks like people now have the proof they need to pursue legal action against the wannabe.
