Rumor has it up here that he is moving to the area and just bought a big building in my town for a TKD school. He is evidently a 6th or 7th Dan. For all I know, he's a member of this list! Just trying to get some info on him. I would appreciate anyone's help. Thank you." I live in Florence, SC and we do have an 8th Dan Korean named Lee here. He has a school in Florence and Myrtle Beach. He is a short fellow with a big ego. I am relieved. So - I am off now to do some stretching - my turning kicks are still appallingly low, and nothing but stretching, stretching, stretching is going to cure that. Here's to not lurking and trying to participate more! BTW - anyone here from Singapore? I know the there is a Julian Lim from Malaysia here (sorry, not sure if that is Master Lim or not, if it is then please accept my apologies)...... Use your dojang and competitions you go to as a measuring tool. If you don't measure up to what you see then you know the answer as to if you are being promoted to fast. You need time between test to practice and have your techniques come natural. The McDJ is a view point that you need to decide on by the quality of instruction, speed of test and how many belts they are at your dojang. Some dojangs have 6 belts before black and some may have 12 or more. With each test comes the cost and then there is the cost for all the other items that they can dream up to nickel and dime you. I'm sure you will read a lot more on this. >Secondly - I have been studying ITF TKD for about 10 months, with my wife, and I must say we both love it. We train 4-5 times a week for 2-3 hours each >session. We also have a 50lb punching bag hanging at home, a makiwara and a stretching machine for mornign training (each day). I think we can safely say that >we are as keen as mustard. My wife is really good, she got into the finals for her yellow belt pattern in the last competition we went to, and can do full front and >side splits - leading to some really nice side, turning, and downward kicks! I must admit that I struggle on side and turning to get abive chest level. >Anyway, I digress. My query was regarding the advancement that we have been experiencing. Whereas most students in our dojang promote every three months >one gup, we have been double promoted twice, hence at 10 months we are 6 gup (green). I have spoken to my instructor who said that I shouldn't be surprised >as most students train once a week, so we do 5 times more training. most students in our Dojang take 2 1/2 years to 3 years to reach black so I am not sure that >we are a McDJ, and people do fail soem gradings and are held back. However, I have read comments in posts here about rapid promotion and McDJs and >thought I would seek opinion on my experience. I ahve another grading coming up in 3 weeks, and am worried about another double promotion to Blue 4...... --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues available @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com Copyright 1994-2004: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
