I, before any comments will say that if this person you are talking about is your student you should be able to jump him to his next step in rank since you are the teacher ! If you are just an assistant instructor you can ask, recommending the teacher for the advansemment of this student but train him hard so he will not feel that ' I will just get to do good and can skip the prosedure. Rank and testing fee is what I am talking about. Tell him that when his time to change belt color he must pay de fee for that new color belt. Also you can ask him if it is that his economy not allow him to be paying this fee at this momment and that might be the reason he do not want to test to the next step of his path unless he feels that he is not ready and has desided not to tell you so. Take care and be well. HAP Ramon Navarro HapKiDo SabomNim Song moo HapKiDo International Panama Republic of Panama 3. This is a 30 something fellow who is naturally talented. His kicks are strong and powerful he tries hard to absorb everything, and is quite good at picking up new techniques. (at yellow belt it's ALL new, neh?) There is a testing coming up in a few weeks and I asked if he felt prepared for the test. He said he was in no hurry, and that the belt really didn't mean all that much to him. What he enjoyed was coming to class and learning new things. He said he always enjoys one of the instructors or senior students correcting his technique and giving him new "tricks" to try . He's interested in playing in the local tournaments (and my guess is he'll be cleaning the proverbial floor with the competitors in his division), and learning self defense, and improving his techniques. Given this man's innate abilities I would see no reason he could not learn the required techniques and actually skip a belt at the low levels (something I have never seen done in our school), but I doubt you could pay him to do such a thing. To this man, its about the journey, not the destination. Someday, he'll be a black belt who will make himself, and especially his teachers, proud! I nearly hugged him. I'm not very good with praising people, so this will be short. Last Thursday a friend I had the opportunity to meet fellow list-member Dr. Julian Lim. He was most courteous and resectful to us. He conducted himself very professionally and I thoroughly enjoyed his class. After 14 years in the martial arts, I still learned a lot from him in just an hour. I look forward to contuining my studies with you starting Tuesday. Thank you, Sir. I have been to many TSD, MDK and TKD sites and can NOT find any description of the form under those names. http://McHenry.homeip.net/TangSooDo/forms/ or http://ryanshroyer.tripod.com/ The only reference was on a site called Ron Little Martial Arts, but there was no pictograph or word description. Anyone know these forms. They might be under another name. After all my instructor teaches a stance he calls "chung do kwa" and his first question at any belt testing is "what type of karate do we take?" Our special guest will be Grandmaster S. Henry Cho, 9th Dan Kukkiwon and a pioneer of Taekwondo in the United States. We are also expecting several Grandmasters to join GM Cho at this year's big event. We are all concerned about the impending de-certification of our National Governing Body (NGB) due to the alleged misdeeds of a few members of the Executive Committee. The AAU will provide a viable alternative this year to the USTU for all Taekwondo athletes who love to compete. The STATES is a qualifier for the AAU Youth & Adult National Taekwondo Championships set for July 7th through the loth in Fort Lauderdale, FL. It is also the first step for Black Belts to qualify for AAU National Team Trials next Fall. The AAU has both a junior and adult team that competes each year, all expenses paid, at the US Open and at one or more international events. The STATES will have six fully matted rings as well as electronic scoring for the benefit of athletes, coaches and spectators. This is a well run, timely event which focuses on cooperation, sportsmanship and fair play. It is an event that provides an enjoyable competitive experience not only for the Taekwondo athletes but also for their families. Please check the package for information about becoming a certified AAU coach which is a requirement to coach at all AAU sanctioned events. We have all complained about poor officiating at tournaments in the past and now you truly have an opportunity to do something about that. We will be hosting two clinics to certify black belts to officiate at this event. Sunday, March 14th for previously certified AAU officials with two years or more experience and Sunday, March 28th for those with little or no experience but would like to give back to their art. Please encourage any of your Black Belts who do not compete to contribute in another way by becoming a qualified official. The certification normally costs $35 but anyone who will be working the STATES will be able to get certification free of charge. As we always do, the top three schools with the most registered competitors will receive a beautiful trophy. Encourage your athletes to participate and bring one of these beauties back to your dojang. We will look forward to seeing you all on April 3rd For additional information you can contact me at your convenience at the numbers above or check our website . Peace. We have received a inordinately large amount of pre-registrations, especially considering that the event is still five weeks away. All of the advertised instructors will be there, including Master Hal Whalen of MA, who was recently named the director of the KHF for the USA, as well as Master Holcombe Thomas who was named as an advisor for the same region. I understand that the hotel is just about filled to overflowing with Hapkido folks so if you have a problem finding a room, feel free to contact me and I will make a recommendation for an alternate....I look forward to seeing everyone.....JRW --__--__-- Message: 8 From: "L. I can't remember what the name of the school is....but I have seen him with his students in tournaments. (If that is the right person) I have seen a couple of his students...they looked pretty good. You may want to research TKD in Greenville, SC....There is a school called Huggins TKD academy-that is not the one. Ok gang, I'm going out on a limb on this one. Does anyone know of a Master Lee from South Carolina? I know there's ALOT of Lee's so quit laughing.. He evidently has schools in Florida as well. Rumor has it up here that he is moving to the area and just bought a big building in my town for a TKD school. He is evidently a 6th or 7th Dan. For all I know, he's a member of this list! Just trying to get some info on him. I would appreciate anyone's help. Thank you.
