David... I recommend discussing this particular student and topic with a couple of the Master Instructors (like Master Weaver and Master Mostowitz) prior to the test...see what their opinions are...then approach GM Kim if they support your opinion...but they will at least give you an honest assessment... It will ultimately be the decision of GM Kim since you are not testing him privately and all advancements have to be approved by GM... I, personally, have no problem advancing a student by skipping a rank at Yellow Belt Level...Though I would only allow skipping a rank up to Green Belt and not beyond... Pil Seung!!! To me, the "Moo Duk Kwan Tae Kwon Do Burger Kwan" means it could be almost anything. I am Tang Soo Do from the Moo Duk Kwan lineage, and there are a couple of possibilities that come to mind. The first is a form Known as "Jitte" or "Jutte" (be careful because these names can refer to 2 different forms) in Japanese/Okinawan but most commonly called "Sip Soo" or Ten Hands in Korean. It is a black belt form that is done at different levels by different orgs, but cho dan to sam dan is common. The other form could be "Jinto" or "Chinto" which has various romanizations. This form is crane form and is typically taught at e dan level. I think both these forms are on Master MacHenry's website. There is also a wtf dan form called Jitae. But like I said, without seeing a few moves, it is almost impossible to be sure. Tang Soo!!! I used to be involved with the man personally and am now thankful not to be. It is disappointing that he is involved with the K.H.F. It sounds like he is up to his old tricks again or should I say his on-going tricks. If the officials are honorable with their intentions then they will see his or catch his folly sooner or later. If their intentions are of an unhonorable nature I pity them. Most likely it is of a financial matter. It is amazing how it can affect people. It can turn the most well intended and acted individual to a scheming and manipulative pile of you know what! This talk of money has brought a quandary to my thinking. I have a small school and I'm growing quicker than I ever have before. It's the issue of free stuff. For example, a lot of schools in my area have a free uniform and/or free first session. The term "you get what you pay for" comes to mind. I feel most people believe that. So, I don't do either of those things. I also explain my philosophy to people when they ask about it. I'll say something to the affect of "people don't value things that are given as much as if they earn it". So I instead have a 30 day money back guaranty. I'm also attempting to get local businesses to sponsor kids who can't pay for lessons. I would love to get some input on the two issues I addressed. One other thing. I've only been a member of this web-site for approximately a week and a half. I absolutely love it. It has brought to my attention many things I would of taken much longer to think of on my own, or maybe not at all. Everything I read says you are trying to better yourselves in the arts and your lives. I thank all of you greatly for that! To paraphrase a private email I received; there are many hapkido folks out there selling rank and have no value of time in rank or what hapkido truly is other than as a commodity to be sold. They have crawled their way to power over the backside of legitimate instructors. TKD times is full of ads from these people. But the legitimate hapkidoin do not get, nor seek, the publicity, and are quietly doing their thing in the background (we hardly here about them). EVERY legitimate hapkido organization in Korea appears to have some of these bad apples in their fold. In the end, the KHF is the one that will loose as it is their reputation on the line and this time it is a self-inflicted injury. Many organizations are willing to promote someone several ranks in order to get them into their organization. I have received many offers over the years willing to promote me to 7th dan if I join their organization. In the end, that is all I would be getting from them. Nothing else. If training was a priority instead of certification, the hapkido community would be a much better place. Just my opinion. Jere R. Keep up the pressure. Continue to spread the word to all that will listen, via calls/emails/etc, else others will also be taken in by this "individual".
