You are right in that the base are has no weapons training. I've learned what I have by 'broadening my horizons' and training with other instructors, from both Japanese, Korean and Philipeno styles. Nothing ever really formal - just informal or attending seminars. I also encourage my students to do the same. <> Although that is always nice to be able to stay within the same organization and support it, personally I think you should be able to go anywhere you need to go to get the training you are looking for. That is one of the reasons I enjoyed the USKMAF seminars so much - so many different people attended and taught various sessions on a great varity of subjects, including weapons. I like being able to see things from different angles and perspectives, which helps me gain insight into my own art and training. <> Yup. <> Yes and no. If you teach something from "outside", just let your students know where it's coming from. This gives you some 'value add' to your instruction and will make you a better instructor. IMHO <> Sounds like a very wise old master ;-) <> George, if you ever can - make the "pilgrimage" - it will be well worth your while. I know, becase it sounded so interesting (thanks Master Hilland) I made the first one and haven't missed one since. I also try to make all the seminars that Master West and Master Timmerman do in my area (as well as some others). As Morphous said "expand your mind". Hello Bruce: Not a problem; however, with the number of people (and my keen desire to give everybody some personal attention), there is often not enough time to go through a whole set of techniques, so I sample some of the more useful ones. I saw that the last time I did this, so this time I'll bring some videos. Don't be looking for a professional set, this is just a "working" version of techniques that pay little attention to any Hollywood stuff. It is a simple video geared to assist you from forgetting the techniques. In any case, taping as well as selling tapes is up to Master West. He told me once I could bring some tapes in order to offset my expenses, so I'll take him up on that. JR himself has a great variety of tapes available, and perhaps Master Booth will have some of his awesome new DVDs as well. Reason I suggest people to pick up their favorite tape or DVD is that most folks will forget the details of whatever they learn at seminars. In the case of the rope techniques I teach, there is a definite different "twist" that sets it somewhat apart from others. While I'm in my "selling" mode, it is always handy to bring a few extra bucks to JRs event. There are opportunities that you won't easily find in other places. For example, an autographed book by Dr. Kimm. Anyone disagree? Jye JAMES FORTEN (1766-1842) James Forten invented a device which made it easier to handle the large heavy sails of the big ships that sialed the seas before the days of the steamship. As a boy he loved to go down to the docks along the Delaware River and watch the ships maneuver up to the pier to unload their cargo. He noticed how important the expert handling of the sails was in guiding the ships. At the age of eight he began working in a Philadelphia sail loft with his father, and some thirty years later bought the sailmaking shop from the owner. During this time he not only invented and perfected his device, but also learned all about the sailmaking business. Due partly to his invention, his sail loft became one of the most proposerous in the city. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
