It was much more then 4 years. Really? Jigoro Kano was born Oct. 28th 1860, and founded Judo at the Eishoji Temple in 1882. That would make him somewhere between the age of 21 or 22 depending on the month it was founded. One source states Kano's father felt ju-jitsu was a thing of the past and forbad his son from practicing. But at age 16 he studied under Ryuji Katagire. But Katagire felt Kano was too young to be a serious student and gave him only a few formal lessons. So this would have been a very limited amount of time. Consider the time how social conditions would have been and how son's would have been expected to respect the wishes of their father. I doubt Kano was able to get by with much martial arts practice if his father was against his practice. It was not until the age of 18 while away from home at Tokyo Imperial University in 1878 that he began to study under Hachinosuke Fukuda of the Tenshin-Shinyo Ryu, and later Kito-Ryu under Iikubo. Now if you can provide me with any historic facts that dispute these dates please do so. Even giving the benefit of the doubt to his starting ju-jitsu at 16 that still is only about 5 years of study before he founded Judo in 1882. I guess if you consider 5 years "much more" than 4 years I was wrong. > As for Bruce Lee he also > studied Wing Chun and other arts of combat before Jun Fun. Can you give us any names of his instructors, dates of training, location of training, or style he trained in? > > Nobleknight Hwarang Sir Rick Clark "It never troubles the wolf how many the sheep be" Virgil www.ao-denkou.kai.org --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Sat, 7 Feb 2004 15:04:00 -0600 (CST) From: To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] =?iso-8859-1?Q?Re:_Which_Ones=3F_?= Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Dear NobleKnight Is that really how you want to be addressed?): Help me out here a bit. I would like nothing better than share my resources but I don't think you are asking for an exhaustive catalog, are you? Does that include, books, magazines, video tapes, recorded programs, DVD, lecture notes, monographes and Internet Links? Is there some particular area you are interested in or do you just want me to screen dump everything for you to cherry-pick through? What may I ask is in it for me if I spend hours organizing an exhaustive catlogue of my resources for you--- so that you don't have to discover a catalogue of your own? To be perfectly honest, its really hard for me to expend that sort of energy for you, when you could not expend enough energy to sign your name, yes? Don't be looking for a professional set, this is just a "working" version of techniques that pay little attention to any Hollywood stuff. It is a simple video geared to assist you from forgetting the techniques....." Thanks for the tip. Thats all I would have been doing anyhow and I would MUCH rather be out on the mat than standing behind some camera. I'll take you up on whatever ya' got. Anyone disagree?" I disagree somewhat. I think the basis of your opinion is true. In my opinion if you are using the weapon and defending against that weapon you need to know how to use it. However if you are aware of the function of the weapon and its capabilities you can defend against it quite well without of ever using it before. I have very limited weapons training but, I have had to defend against weapons in testing that I never used before. As long as I relate the movement of the weapon to the movement of a particular body technique and remember the properties of the weapon (such as a sharp edge) I can defend against it with a good rate of success. I also don't believe anyone can ever fully defend against anything. You can always be better and so can the use of the weapon in my opinion. However, the more experience you have with the weapon the more you can anticipate its use. So, in that area I agree with you Mr. Jaye enigma. Thank you for the statement! It made me think a lot about defending against weapons and has inspired me to get some more training in them. Expanding my mind, Luke --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? New Yahoo! My current certificate is through the W.T.F. I think we all know what has been happening with them over the past few years and especially lately. Also, I found out a lot of the certificates that were handed out in U.S.A. are false ones given by dishonorable people. I'm looking at getting rank by a newly founded organization called SImMuDo. The founder and president is Grandmaster Pan Gon Song. After I go through his organization and if he finds me to be a quality person and martial artist he can also get me certification in other long existing kwans. His web-site is www.simmudo.com . I'm looking for input this organization and what other kwans would be good to go with. One other thing. My old instructor was a man called Craig Balliete. He has a company called Triad Enterprises, Inc. He sold me my present school and we are no longer in contact. I felt he wasn't holding up his end of the bargain and was out primarily for the money. It was a bad split and I know he is still in contact with a former student of mine who has opened up his own school in town. I wouldn't be surprised if he still hates my guts like he did before. I never hated the man only his beliefs and actions. Besides it was a business transaction. I feel he is like a Richard Hackworth (only he is in shape) and I would like to know what I'm up against if that is the case. I saw only the exterior of the man and found out later after he moved that his intentions were not what I wanted and I immediately got out of the relationship. If anyone has any information on him, good or bad, please let me know. He should be about 6th or 7th dan in the W.T.F. and the same in the Chung Do Kwan. Personally I'd say just best to stay with them instead of jumping orgs. That seldom looks good. Sim Mu Do may be a fine group and SONG Pan-gon may be a fine master, but remember that he was at one time in bed with Hackworth as the Korean head of the KMAIA group. However he has now come clean and said that it was always a farse (more or less) and never really existed, esp in Korea.
