It is my understanding that tbe KMAIA does in fact exist in Korea, as it is a registered business entity. Kinda like I open a business here and register it with the SCC, it is a bonafide CA business. I have also been told on several occasions that Master Song has never had any authority or say within the KMAIA, and that his presidency was something that was dreamt up to try and give it some sense of authenticity. The story I got from one of Hapkido's non KMAIA affiliated seniors, and I shall leave the name blank as I do not know how he feels about me revealing this story, was that Earnest Beck contacted him about membership. At the time he was too busy, and did not want to commit to something. A couple of years later, he sees the advertisement in TKDT under "Grandmaster Richard Hackworth", and thinks to himself, I know this bunch.... So while they may have been registered in Korea, it would seem that once that was done, the whole intent was to be a confidence gane from the get-go. You have to wonder about any group who habitually stoops to personal attacks, and outight lies. These people are vicious. They have attacked everyone from my pregnant fiancee, to Masters who have gotten bonafide appointments from the KHF not related to them. _________________________________________________________________ Find great local high-speed Internet access value at the MSN High-Speed Marketplace. http://click.atdmt.com/AVE/go/onm00200360ave/direct/01/ --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "Tom Stanfield" To: Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] Tombstone Date: Sun, 8 Feb 2004 14:56:40 -0600 Organization: Home Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Randy, maybe you should try the "print ti fit" option Tom ----- Original Message ----- From: "Randall Sexton" To: Sent: Saturday, February 07, 2004 5:34 PM Subject: [The_Dojang] Tombstone > < translate the rest of the headstone.>> > > > I'll carry the photos to work and see if someone can translate. I had been doing doing Tang Soo Do and the only dojang in the new town was a Taekwondo and Hapkido school. I hadn't heard much about Taekwondo, except that "it was like TSD", so off to the TKD/HKD school I go. All I knew of Hapkido was something about a movie named Billy Jack. We're talking 1976. We're sparring in class, my opponent was a TKD black belt, and his head was wide open. So I threw a well focused backfist to his nose. He just looked shocked and said "you can't do that!". I thought to myself, what do you mean I can't do that, I just did. Again his face was open, so again I put a backfist up side his jaw. Again he said, this time more forcefully, "You can't do that!!!". Me... what do you mean I can't do that. It seems to work just fine. Later the instructor pulled me aside and explained that there were "rules" in TKD and I wasn't supposed to be throwing punches to the face. Just blew me away. Finally I understood why I couldn't do that (but it sure worked well). There seems to always be splits between the "do" and "Jitsu" or the "sport" vs "combat" arts. And I have had similar conversations many times. So I would like to get various views on this subject, so: Can you give me an example of any martial art today that is truly a martial art that you can practice with another person? It seems to me there must be some things that are "illegal" to practice with your partner or risk serious injury to them. I should expect even 400 years ago (pick your own year) when people were practicing martial arts to be used in battle there were some rules used to guide students in their practice. > > Brian > > > Out of curiosity what makes Judo a sport and not a martial art in your > > opinion? > > > > Other than the obvious difference in techniques, what is the difference > > between Judo, Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Kendo or other "Do" arts that would > > make > > one a martial art and the other a martial sport? Wouln't that throw a monkey wrench in Korean martial art history:)............." I think you should cash in on your heritage. Gawd knows that somewhere in your background you are probably related to Hamel and we could build a case for you being descended from one of the first Dutchmen to master all of the extant Korean martial arts before escaping to Japan where he imparted his knowledge to the Japanese Emperor. As we all know that same information was disseminated by imperial decree and is the foundation for all Japanese MA we know today. Hows THAT for Piling it Higher and Deeper ("PhD.")? Hey-- that story would make about as much sense as some of the other stuff floating around, right? My vote is we start pushing the rumor starting tonight!! :-) Best Wishes, Bruce --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues available @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com Copyright 1994-2004: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
