Then I called the US Representative, Dr. Dick Hashforth, and he sold me a Charter Membership and promoted me to 5th Dan (so you don't think I just bought rank, I did have to verbally describe my technique in great detail over the phone). I'm saving up for because Dr. Hashforth told me I could soon be the Southern-Northern Virginia rep if I get my application fees in before the deadline. When Kip comes back to the States, I'm gonna see if he wants to open the first TGT Dojang north of the Mason-Dixon Line. Don't tell him, though. It's a surprise. It also teaches you angular movements, or circular movements just like in pa kua (for this the space between the outer points become an arc). You can also use this training to aid in body mechanics to learn to deflect, evade, etc oncoming strikes. This can be done alone, and/or with a partner....." That is a great drill and became very famous when folks started doing it on raised posts. For myself I advocate for the octagon instead. In this drill one has a small octagon whose individual sides are approx 1 shoulder width in length. This shape is surrounded by a second octagon and the congruent angles are connected by lines, again, about a shoulder width long. The neat thing is that the sides of the outer octagon result in a length of about 1.5 shoulder widthes. The advantage of this is that one can use the inner and connecting angles to practice smaller moves and stances, while the outer sides are great for elongated stances. And when I'm tired of doing MTHand material it can still be used for weapons work. A great little tool---- and cheap too! How expensive is a piece of chalk!?! :-) Best Wishes, Bruce --__--__-- Message: 3 From: "C. I never heard of anyone doing it on raised posts. By raised posts are you talking about plum blossom poles? I have exercises for those as well. Diddlethorpe wrote the original in Urgal (he was fluent in 11 languages), and later translations were abridged and contained errors of translations. The Dutch translation probably mistook marmots for gophers. As an aside, giant marmot bones have been found amongst the dinosaur remains in southern Gobi desert, indicating that they have been around a very long time in one form or another (Farquhar E. Cartwright, 1937: Paleontological Studies in the Southern Gobi Desert II The Marmotosaurus pp223-237; This is a good read, I can recommend it.)
